Keith Olbermann Suspended After Donating to Democrats
Politico ^ | November 5, 2010 | Simmi Aujla

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has been suspended indefinitely without pay after POLITICO reported that he made three campaign contributions to Democratic candidates.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement Friday: “I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay." Continue Reading

Olbermann made campaign contributions to two Arizona members of Congress and failed Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway ahead of Tuesday’s election.

Olbermann, who acknowledged the contributions in a statement to POLITICO, made the maximum legal donations of $2,400 apiece to Conway and to Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. He donated to the Arizona pair on Oct. 28 — the same day that Grijalva appeared as a guest on Olbermann’s “Countdown” show.

NBC has a rule against employees contributing to political campaigns, and a wide range of news organizations prohibit political contributions — considering it a breach of journalistic independence to contribute to the candidates they cover.

Chris Hayes, the Washington editor for The Nation and a previous fill-in for Rachel Maddow, will fill in for Olbermann tonight, MSNBC confirmed.

Olbermann is one of MSNBC’s most recognizable faces, and has emerged as one of the country’s most prominent liberal commentators. A former ESPN star, Olbermann’s “Countdown With Keith Olbermann” started in 2003 as a traditional news show but evolved into a left-leaning opinion program – and in some ways, led the network into its new identity as the cable-news voice of the left and an attempt to be a counterweight to Fox News.

Inside MSNBC, employees were shocked at the news of Olbermann’s suspension. Despite a reputation for a prickly personality off-air, Olbermann was given wide berth inside the network because of his stature – and his ratings.

That the Mad Moonbat Maniac aka Olbermnn has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating NBC's rule against employees contributing to political campaign doesn't amount to much in terms of viewership as reported in New York Magazine, November 3. It's just that he represents the left-wing denizens of Moonbattery in a big way.

It’s a publicity stunt. Continue ignoring MSNBC.

Well in reality, they had to do something since he was so brazen to admit it in print. But as far as the libs are concerned his only breach was that he was caught.

MSNBC management destroyed billions of shareholder value (probably not much of an exaggeration) by converting the company into a democrat propaganda machine.

Hard for me to imagine that these guys haven’t figured out that we all noticed Olbermann was a partisan liberal nutcase long before now. Do they think that by banning his political contributions, they are somehow keeping it a secret?

I’always thought Olberman had some sort of tube continously pumping air into his windpipe so he could rant for 3 minutes straight without taking a breath. If he has a talent, it is in being able to produce long-winded, multi-parenthetical, run-on sentences seemingly without end.

It may be a cover-up for his low ratings. Got to get him off the TV somehow.

This is just vacation/hiatus time for Kreep Olberfhurer, not to look like a fool on his show after the Republican “wave”, without him descending into frothing, raving, madness onscreen, and, so that he can work up a whole new raft of updated lies to tell about republicans, “righties”, and “teabaggers”.
.

Sort of like Crap Matthews, “updated” *his* compulsive lying accusations of being “racist”...to now saying “tribal” and “ethnic” instead.

This is the best thing MSNBC could have done for Olbermann. Firing a socialist commentator for donating funds to a socialist candidate is just as wrong as firing a conservative commentator for donating to a conservative. MSNBC should have fired him for low ratings. Instead, he will end up as a martyr.

Will Countdown name Olbermann as the Worst Person in the World tonight?

I was going to post this article and did a search for the title and keyword “Olberman”. This thread is the only result on either count for today when I searched.

Still, it’s good to see Overwrought’s in a bit of trouble. Maybe he can find work as a Barney Frank staffer.

I think he got away with it in the past, but MSNBC has now decided that he’s too much of a liability. Look for Rachael Maddow to be next.
