Obama: US can't afford two years of gridlock

U.S. President Barack Obama, still smarting from his Democrats' big losses in congressional elections, said on Friday the United States cannot afford to get mired in legislative gridlock for the next two years while countries like China forge ahead.

Three days after voters punished Obama's party for the weak economy, he called for "putting politics aside" as he struck a conciliatory tone with victorious Republicans, saying he was open to hearing their ideas for tackling stubbornly high unemployment.

Obama now faces a threat by Republican leaders to try to roll back his signature policies, including a healthcare overhaul and Wall Street reform, and to block his agenda for the rest of his term.

"We can't spend the next two years mired in gridlock. Other countries like China aren't standing still so we can't stand still either. We've got to move forward," Obama told reporters before departing on a 10-day Asia tour.

Putting the breaks on Zero is what the elections have been about. Ditto with 2012.

No. What we can’t afford is one day of Obama spending our money.

There is an easy solution to that problem, Obama...vow not to veto any bills sent up to you by the republicans. Gridlock is a two way street.

Lip service. He and this abomination of an administration ARE the source of gridlock...Republicans were shut out of each and every discussion. Sit back, fool and watch how it gets done when adults are in charge.

This two year liberal/socialist experimental nightmare is OVER. Two more years and we can wake fully from this bad bad dream.

Actually, two years of gridlock, preventing the further roll-out of the Kenyan anti-Christ’s agenda, would be moderately restorative for the nation.

Then resign.

this recurring line the Libs keep using of “look at the ChiComs, see how they can get things done without having to worry about dissention” is really starting to bug me.

If I had the choice between gridlock and destroying the country as fast as possible, I’d rather have gridlock for two years. At least the decay would continue at a steady pace rather than increasing monthly.

He is about to spend $200 million dollars a day for 10 days in India, and he thinks we can't afford two years of gridlock!?! That man is off-his-rocker crazy.

I’m really pleased to hear that Obama plans to rubber-stamp anything the Republican House puts in front of him.
