(CNN) - Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's primetime firebrand host, has been suspended indefinitely for violating the ethics policies of his employer earlier this year when he donated to three Democrats seeking federal office, MSNBC announced Friday.
"I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay," MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement.
First reported by Politico and confirmed by Federal Election Commission filings, the primetime television host gave $2,400 the maximum individual amount allowed to each of the campaigns of Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway, and Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. (View PDF's of FEC filings for Conway, Grijalva, and Giffords)

RT @jpodhoretz: Olbermann suspended because giving Democrats 100M worth of free commercial time is ethical but writing a few thou in checks isn’t. Hilarious
wow so openly politicking for Democrats on his show is A-OK but making a political donation to same isn’t? How screwed up is that?
I agree. Why is this a problem? The problem isn't that talking heads have a position, and donate to people who espouse their position - the problem is that 100% of the talking heads on all the networks (but Fox) have the same position... And they pretend they are unbiased.
I can't believe that none of other Commentators, Cue-card readers, etc - don't make contributions to various candidates (and for the NBCCBSABCNYTPBSNPRCNNMSNBC consortium that would be 99.9% to Dems)...
hehehehe...
I hate Olbermann as much as anybody, but I think it’s ridiculous to get him on this, he should have as much right as anybody else to donate to candidates.
Yeah, it’s like getting Al Capone for income tax evasion.
And his employer has a right to suspend him, for breaking their rules.
True, but methinks, MSNBC was just looking for an excuse to get rid of him, you can bet he isn't the only one who does that.
odd... in 2008 he was boasting he didn’t vote or it would mean he had a horse in the race.
according to Michael Savage, Keith has some real serious problems which prevented MSNBC from firing him. Americans with Disabilities Act kind of stuff.

Heh. MSNBC, hoisted on their own liberal petard.
He has made “in kind” donations to them for years.
