Idaho elected its first Hispanic to represent the state in Congress on Tuesday, as Raul Labrador upset freshman Democratic Rep. Walt Minnick with a decisive 51 percent to 41.3 percent victory. Labrador, a conservative Republican state lawmaker and immigration attorney, said he thought the first was significant because it sent a message to the nation about Idahoans. People have such a bad connotation of what Idaho represents, Labrador said, a bad place, a racist place. I cant think of a better message for Idaho to send than to send a young man who was born in Puerto Rico, was raised in Las Vegas and was adopted by this state
Cool! Another conservative and Labrador reminds one of Marco Rubio.
Congrats Idaho!
I honestly didn’t think Labrador could pull it off. Didn’t the rat get the NRA endorsement, like Reid?
TBH I did not think Labrador was a Spanish surname..lol!
I thought dude’s family came from Canada..well ain’t that something!
Good for him.
Overweight, slovenly, too good to serve in his countries uniform and not especially accomplished. That’s the best Idaho could do? I’m glad we’ve got guys like LTC West and COL Gibbons heading in.
Is that a racist comment? You must like Minnick!
How would it be racist?
“Overweight, slovenly, too good to serve in his countries uniform and not especially accomplished.”
Would you say that about someone who isn’t Hispanic? I think we have to watch how we characterize people.
There is this guy who still looks athletic and tidy in his late 50s. He accomplished quite a lot: graduated from US Naval Academy, served in his country’s uniform for long, reached the rank of vice admiral, received many medals, was commander for a frigate, and in leadership position in the Navy as well as National Security Council. At the same time he also got a Ph.D. in political economy from Harvard. Yet, I’ll take Labrador any day for Congress.
Good thing he got the Tea Party Express endorsement :)
An excellent reason to be against him.
Check my comments. I say it about everybody where it applies. I like my leaders to be leaders.
I’ll take the conservatives whose walked the walk. See Congress Sam Johnson as well as Hunter, West & Kline and Gibson as examples.
By the way, if you were referring to Sestak his military demeanor is lacking as far as I’m concerned. His haircut looked as though it was styled by the Beatles, even while in uniform. See Generals Krulak, Mundy or Boykin for far better examples of military bearing.
