Sam Tanenhaus, editor of the New York Times Book Review, last year published a quickie book, "The Death of Conservatism," based on a February 2009 piece in The New Republic. "As Tanenhaus sees it," National Public Radio's Robert Siegel explained in introducing an interview, "American conservatism has degenerated into a hollow echo-chamber of movement die-hards and talk show hosts, disconnected from the broad public, which until recently it spoke for."
NPR put the interview on its website under the headline "Author: Liberals Should Lament Conservatism's Death." This week's election results make clear beyond doubt that conservatism is alive and well. So liberals don't have to lament after all!
Of course, not all liberals were lamenting conservatism's putative death. In "40 More Years: How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation," published in May 2009,James Carville gloated: "Republicans have no hope of making serious inroads into Democratic advantages in 2010, or likely in 2012 and 2014 and so on. It's time to call TOD on the GOP." We think TOD stands for "time of death."
Evidence is much more abundant that libs are facing problems; remember Carville saying gun control was a losing issue (years ago). The failure of “gay marriage” on every ballot its been on, the rapid growth of the Taxed Enough Already movement, and the failure to sink candidates by branding them “anti-choice” are all indications that while the far left is still around, they have slowly been losing hearts & minds for over a decade.
I knew conservatism was alive and well when Jim DeMint won his senate race after saying something along the lines of homosexuals and unwed mothers being unsuitable as public school teachers, and when Tom Coburn won his senate race after saying anyone taking part in an abortion should go to prison. The senators who won during Bush’s terms were more of a story than Bush himself, though even he gave us school accountability in No Child Left Behind, a ruling that we do in fact have a right to bear arms (it had never been ruled on before), and 2 conservative justices (white males!) on the Supreme Court.
I know Carvile is not an adult, but you would think he could play one on TV.
Strategery. McDemocrat was and is as much of a Socialist as Soetoro is. The 2008 fix was always in. Conservatives stayed away and pinned the tail on the true Socialist -> Soetoro. The RINO wannabes are now facing HUNTING SEASON. McReachAround got his dingle cut off.
I’m sure old serpent head will be deeply involved in any potential Hillary! comeback try in 012.

My first clue should have been that it won the L.A. Times Book Prize and was a National Book Award finalist. Those "honors" only go to establishment Lefties.
Seeing that picture reminds me of how much I miss Bob Novak. His commentary on Tuesday would have been awesome! RIP Bob.
It oughtta go without saying, but I’ll remind everyone anyway. These authors are less analyzing the present or predicting the future than attempting to bring about the sort of future they’d like to see (i.e. one with liberals triumphant). Their aim is polemical, not prognostical.
I thought the same thing. I miss Bob Novak as well as crossfire which used to be good some 15 or 20 years ago. I hear it’s gone now.
