This is the message President Obama heard from the American people in the "shellacking" he said he took on Tuesday night: The American people don't want him and the Republicans to "relitigate" the fights of the past two years.
If he truly believes this, he is a one-term president and shouldn't even bother trying to run again in 2012. Elections are precisely moments when we "relitigate" the recent past and make our judgment about how it went. If he doesn't understand this very basic point, he's toast.
The American people "relitigated" the last two years on Tuesday night, and found him and his party liable in what may be the most definitive judgment of our lifetimes.
The American jury awarded the Republicans 60-plus House seats, as many as eight Senate seats, six governorships, and control in 19 state legislatures -- not because they believe in GOP innocence, but because they are certain about Democratic guilt.
There was a simple message in this election -- perhaps too simple for the editor of the Harvard Law Review, who probably prefers his messages ornate and laboriously complex.
The message: Stop. You've done too much -- spent too much, grown government too much, involved yourself in the inner workings of business too much. Stop.
Instead, Obama talked about doing more, and said there was a "message to Republicans" in the results that they needed to compromise with him.
Astonishing.

I heard “relitigate” about 10 times last night on the TV cable shows, and in articles. The talking points memo went out and apparently we the people think in legal terminology. Ridiculous.
Obama said it all in his speech, he heard nothing from us in the elections except that we are confused, scared and do not understand what it is he is trying to do.
We can now watch and read as the media begins an attempt to save his presidency.
You will start to see articles from everywhere, NY Post, NY Times, LA Times, all saying Obama needs to read between the lines. That he has missed the voters message.
This will be their attempt to get him to open his eyes.
Because they know that if they don’t he will be voted out of office in 24 months with a margin that will make Mondale’s loss to Reagan look lame...
Rube Goldberg is the only one who can understand him.
Indeed. This president will never get it, and is incapable of adapting.
I agree. Total malapropism.
Since when are “legislate” and “litigate” synomymous?
The kind of ignorance that the LSM would adopt right away.
Isn’t the definition of Insanity, doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results?
I think our POTUS could be classified as clinically insane.
0bama is correct. We do not want to relitigate the last 2 years.
We want to repeal it.
The midterm campaign was the litigation.
We the jury have returned our verdict.
IMO, the answer to this question is simple -
0bama does not care in the least about the sentiments of the voting public. He is focused upon advancing his own particular agenda. The man is not an incompetent; he is a fanatic.
Socialists are like that.
He sounds like a babbling idiot and since he addressing babbling idiots no one calls him on it.
It is in the best interests of the DNC and the MSM to accept and broadcast “O’s” speeches as the equivalent of speeches made by persons with experience in government, an actual command of the facts and a proficiency in THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
“O” babbles. I WILL NOT WATCH OR LISTEN TO THIS IDIOT!
