Hoffman Sounds Off On Owens Win

SARNAC LAKE, Ny -- Failed Congressional candidate Doug Hoffman is calling for unity after Democrats take New York's 23rd Congressional seat once again. He is also taking shots at the GOP establishment in the North Country.

Plattsburgh Democrat Bill Owens managed to hold onto his seat over Watertown Republican Matt Doheny in Tuesday's general election by a mere 37 hundred votes. Hoffman is being blamed for the Republican's loss.

Hoffman managed to garner more than 9,000 votes, even though he had dropped out of the race. Hoffman, who lost to Doheny in the GOP primary back in September, remained on the ballot in the fall because he had accepted the Conservative Party's nomination. Hoffman endorsed Doheny but many of his supporters stuck with the Sarnac Lake businessman.

Note to local GOP king makers: Place Hoffman on ballot and you win.

Hoffman took too long before he withdrew from the race. His name was already printed in the ballot.

There was a primary this time. GOP "kingmakers" didn't place anybodies name on the ballot.

Hoffmans greed lost this seat. Go away Hoffman, you tried twice and failed.

He lost a fair primary then decided to play spoiler. Hoffman was in the wrong this time and I’m done with him. He’s no better then the Princess in Alaska.

I’ve come to wonder if Hoffman’s just a rat mischief maker.

Hoffman is definitely an ego maniac if Owens only won by 37 votes; he SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE (Even campaigning day and night, if necesary) to make sure that his supports knew he endorsed Doheny!

I don’t think so. He became famous with the circumstances of the first race and I think his need for the spotlight over rode his common sense.

He thought the circus would come back to town to support him.

Agreed. But voters need to wise up too. Hoffman did announce his withdrawal and support of Donehy and flyers were sent out twice to registered voters telling them that Hoffman wanted them to vote Republican. I'm not happy with Hoffman or his 10,000 voters!

I think this go-round he is. Made no sense to me to go against the man who won the primary other than getting attention. The R candidate was chosen fairly.

I think he was kind of clueless, to be honest with you. I’m done with him and so are most. Usually the Republicans are also on the conservative line in NY-23, the Republican party used to work hard to get this done. A lot of people vote straight conservative up here and having the conservative line is the difference in many small town elections.

Doheny is pro choice, Hoffman is credible pro life.

Hoffman, or anyone else for that matter, is under no obligation to make sure ‘an evil democrat doesn’t get elected’.

Personally, I have had about as much of the GOP as I can stand. Murkowsi, Crist, Castle, Lugar.... Why am I obliged to make sure a political caucus that embraces theses characters gets elected?

I didn't like Hoffman the first time. Some of his stories didn't add up.

I only endorsed him the first time because I didn't like Scuzzy and didn't like the way she was picked.

Now, Hoffman's ego costs us a seat.

Hoffman belatedly withdrew....he foiled the election.....

he's pretty arrogant and egotistical for being the quiet, intelligent man he pretends to be..

if we are going to go forward, the pubs MUST establish rules that candidates must live by......numero uno..you can't run on two tickets and you can not run as a write in or a thrid party candidate after losing your primary....this under penalty of huge finacial fees....

the voters did not select Hoffman in the primary and for this great sin, they are punished with another rat...

nice going Dougy....
