MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA Voters Tuesday appeared to have given Republicans control of the state House and Senate for the first time since the 1870s, according to incomplete and unofficial vote results.
The Republican Party claimed wins in the governors race with the election of state Rep. Robert Bentley of Tuscaloosa as governor and claimed the House and Senate.
This is more than just an historic day for the Alabama Republican Party, it is a victory for all Alabamians who believe in cutting wasteful spending, ending corruption and creating a business-friendly Alabama that will foster job growth, GOP Chairman Mike Hubbard, a state legislator from Auburn who was reelected, said. We look forward to working with Gov.-elect Bentley and his administration to change the culture of the Legislature in Montgomery.

Lowell Barron, the king of the Alabama state senate lost? Wow. When I lived in his district years ago he never even bothered to campaign. He’s sort of the Robert Byrd of northeast Alabama - every other road, bridge, building and town park in the Fort Payne area has his name on it.
