What a precedent this has set for future Alaskan elections. No longer will one have to participate in the primary process. In the future, we are likely to see more people, with name recognition and money, jump into an election at the last second and win an election.

Congratulations to the Alaskan Supreme Court for making things so much easier!

A curtailment to the ability of one jumping in at the last minute to screw up the process is to require a certain number of valid signatures on a write-in petition. I think some states use that requirement now.
