It probably won’t make any difference since his name was on the ballot anyway, stil...

Isn’t the point of allowing write ins that a voter has the right to vote for anyone they please, not just those listed on the ballot? Is Alaska now changing that so they have basicly two ballots—a printed ballot and write in ballot—and if you aren’t on either of those then you voters aren’t allowed to vote for you?

If a voter has the right to vote for anyone they please, then who is the state of Alaska to say their write in vote is invalid?

Isn't the purpose of "write-in" diluted if the candidate has to be on a previously written "list"? Isn't the intent and purpose of the write-in so the voters can vote for whoever they want, even if they're not on the ballot or some "list" somewhere?

Since it's happening to a Repub I'm sure the Demos don't care, but can you imagine how loudly they would be yelling "voter disenfranchisement" if Miller was a Demo?

Actually, not a bad position for the Lt. Gov to take. Let the count sort itself out, with the absentees included, and then the Miller camp can fight this battle if it could make a difference in the result.

Since when is any write-in list “official?”

By definition, a write-in can be anyone you want.

I wrote my wife’s name in for our State Senator because there was no conservative candidate, only Democraps.

So she got at least one vote.

This idiot should be dragged out and tarred and feathered.

A public compaign has already begun this morning on Anchorage Daily News website to file complaints with the Alaska Bar against Joe Miller for "lying".

The newspaper is inviting members of the public to file complaints, "To take him out once and for all".

Uh, isn’t the point of a write-in candidate for the voter to pick an option that isn’t on the ballot? Why does one have to register to be a write-in candidate?

How stupid do you have to be to write in a candidate who’s already listed on the ballot.

Yes, these should not be allowed.

There is a lot you can say about Mr Campbell
In July 2009, Craig E. Campbell was appointed lieutenant governor for the State of Alaska.
He was the head of the AK AIr Guard
Former Zoomie.

Bio is here
http://ltgov.alaska.gov/campbell/lieutenant-governor/biography.html

Political? OH Hell yes, Hack? Hard to say - did spend some time in the Anchorage City council - a nonpartisan position. He did file as a (R) to run for the position he fills now.

Have Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell produce “the official list of write-in candidates”. Murkowski write-in’s will have to disallowed because her name wasn’t on “the official list” which never existed in the first place.

Such “technicalities” should be dismissed, in favor the general purpose of the rule - you can “write in your preferred candidate, when the intent is clear in the actual vote.

What I don’t understand is why is their ANY restrictions - “approved list” or anything else, on write-in candidates. Who are such rules really trying to protect anyway - those that have to count the votes?
