Talking point #1: "This actually makes Obama stronger."
Talking point #2: "The GOP will have to 'moderate' to 'get along' with Obama."
Talking point #3: "This election wasn't all that historic/didn't really revolve around a repudiation of Zero's programs. Nooooooo. Nothing like that."
BTW, as I recall, no NFL team ever won the Super Bowl if it had the rushing champion . . . until Dallas did it with Emmitt Smith. First time for everything.
On the other hand, only once in the last hundred years has a Republican challenger ousted a Democrat incumbent for the presidency.
“no US President ever lost reelection after losing the house”
Well, there’s a first time for everything. I think Obama was hoping the Republicans would win so he can blame everything on them. It won’t work. He’s the worst president ever and has got to get outta there.
Harry Truman won in ‘48, although he took the Presidency due to FDR’s death in ‘45.
Harry Truman won in ‘48, although he took the Presidency due to FDR’s death in ‘45.
And LBJ won in ‘64, after taking over for JFK.
That's just wrong. There were six Democratic presidents capable of running for reelection (JFK excluded) in the 20th century: Wilson, FDR, Truman, LBJ, Carter, and Clinton. Four of them (not two) were reelected at least once: FDR, Truman, LBJ, and Clinton.
The real narrative is how people are voting now, not how they voted 30, 5- or 100 years ago, so the MSM's point is irrelevant anyway.
Truman took the remainder of FDR term so technically he was ELECTED in 1948 not re-elected. (Same as Teddy R in 1912. No way Carter would have been re-elected and LBJ let the Viet Cong and Jane Fonda kill his options
