A source close to Eric Cantor tells CNN that the Republican congressman will announce his intention to run for House majority leader at 10:45 a.m. in a written statement.

I think not knowing the difference between the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader gives us an even worse image.
I wish I had the confidence in Cantor you profess.
I don’t.
Eric Cantor is the WORST speaker, and he’s BORING!
Not too happy with Cantor (he’s my rep). I’m so not happy with him, I didn’t vote for him ...... figured he was going to win anyway & if his margin wasn’t as good as it has been (it wasn’t), maybe this would get his attention. He is not immune to getting kicked out of office. Actions speak louder than words & since he’s pretty good at talking “politician speak”, he’d better get busy doing the people’s business (and NO compromise on principles!).
We are now responsible for running a portion of the government.

That’s like saying you are holding the reins to a horse-drawn hay wagon on fire. Good luck.
The art of compromise will be of paramount value, eh?
The DEms don’t practice it, why do we?
Sorry, I wish I had yours and others optimism over the new emboldened GoP leadership... but many things have not changed and I as many don’t have much hope it will anytime soon.
boehner will be speaker...majority leader is second.
I wouldn’t support him, not after his silly comments about the World War 2 re-enactment being shameful.
“I think not knowing the difference between the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader gives us an even worse image.”
Yes, I agree. I think that too many are guilty of snap-judgments anyway. We all need to improve this. We all need to be knowledgeable and prudent about what we share. We also need to become FAR better informed about how the government processes work in DC and in our local areas. Ultimately, it helps us to keep a better eye on what is taking place.
Like others have said, Boehner kept the house GOP on the same page during some contentious debates the last two years and he earned his chance to be speaker. Most importantly, he is good at articulating a message and we need a good communicator as Speaker because there are going to be some serious fights the next two years.
He has the experience and should be elected Speaker easily. I hope he is ready to be the most important Republican in the nation and smart enough to pick the fights because I guarantee the MSM and rats are going to try and blame the house GOP for everything but the weather.
The key thing to watch IMO will be how he handles the rollback of Obamacare and how focused he keeps the house hearings/investigations.
Cantor and McCarthy were key architects in the successful GOP strategy to take back the House. They have earned these positions.
Dennis Hastert was speaker of the house, and Roy blunt was house majority leader until 2006, when boehner was made majority leader.
In 2007, pelosi became speaker, the dems took over, and Boehner was minority leader.
There is nothing that guarantees that the minority leader becomes speaker, but that seems to be a foregone conclusion. This means the minority whip could move into the majority leader position — and the current republican whip is Cantor, who took over for Blunt this year when Blunt announced his resignation to run for Senate.
There does not appear to be any real shakeup in the republican leadership. Pence announced he was stepping down, so there is no natural candidate to step into the majority whip position.
There could be a competition for majority leader though. I doubt they will have a competition for the speakership. And frankly, Boehner makes a good speaker of the house from a traditional perspective. You want a solid guy who can be seen as businesslike, somewhat non-partisan in his ruling (even if partisan in his voting), and who could be imagined as President (since the position is 3rd in line).
Pelosi was none of these things.
Thanks, bump!
Grow up.
This is not Breaking or Front Page or even news.
It’s just a pro forma announcment of a procedure (vote). Cantor is the number two Republican in the House and it has always been a certainty that if Republicans took the House John Boehner would become Speaker and Cantor would be Majority Leader.
As to those who are critizing him- why?
He is Conservative in every way.

Excuse- if you insist- my subjective parochial outlook, but I can’t imagine the criticism being for any reason except that he is a Jew.
For those who would prefer for Mike Pence to be the Majority Leader, please note that he has decided to resign from the leadership in order to explore the possibility of seeking higher office (such as Lugar’s Senate seat should Lugar retire in 2012, or maybe even run for President). http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2620591/posts
Drunk or sober, Boehner voted correctly. Unfortunately for his leadership fitness report, he is very rarely completely sober.Dry him out and let’s take another look.
Those who lead revolutions are seldom the best people to have in charge after the revolution.
Paul Ryan has a maturity well beyond his years, doesn’t he? I’m even more impressed with him than I am with Sarah Palin.
Wouldn’t that be great? Go young guns!!!!
Perfect. The party types are telling the people who just put Republicans back in power that the best people to manage the new Republican leadership are the people who managed the Republican crash in 2006.
Call it inside information or whatever you’d like, but John Boehner doesn’t believe in smaller government or budgets ... unless that’s the way the wind is blowing.
When he was in power, he fought the reformers amongst the Republicans tooth and nail, both in the light and behind closed doors. That’s what several have told their closest friends. He’s only playing the part of a conservative leader. Go with him (for optics, or because he’s “earned it” in the heirarchy) and you’ve significantly increased the odds that the revolution will end within 12 months.
