I would guess that it is like Patriot's Day in the Northeast. It is big deal and people take off from work...even if the Patriots didn't make the playoffs.

The imam should *specifically* spend the rest of his life in a straitjacket.

As it has been explained to me by Indians here in the US, Diwali isn't really a big thing back in India. For the Indian diaspora in the US, it is apparently a little more significant. And it seems to be a trendy thing amongst lilly white yuppies in the US to celebrate it to demonstrate how worldly they think they are.

What? Have we missed a foreign holiday we can turn into a frat boy drinking fest? What do the Indians drink so we can have the bars serve a cheap version of it up by the buckets. It's probably too late for this year, but I'm sure Coors can sponsor Diwali 2011.

The U.S. can turn anyone's holiday (or even holy day) into a huge drunken party... well except for Oktoberfest which started out that way in Germany.

Kingfisher, Kings, and Royal Challenge! The first being the most easy to find in the US.

How many Americans had to work their whole lives to pay for this obscene trip?

Anything but Christmas in a church, eh Barry?

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Bombay Gin should look at sponsoring it just as the cerveza companies did Cinco de Mayo.

As one colleague put it, "I don't know why Americans always ask me about Diwali

Your colleague may not be Hindu or may even be a Paki trying to pass off as an Indian.

Diwali is by far the biggest pan-Indian festival.
