In a stunning victory, Republicans swept into the majority in the Minnesota Senate for the first time in more than a generation and by early Wednesday had followed that by also taking control of the House.
The dual victories left many of the state's top DFLers speechless, and erased months of optimistic projections that the party would buck a nationwide trend toward Republicans. Even Republicans, who gained confidence with each passing hour as key races broke their way, said the results exceeded even their giddiest predictions.
"I would have seen this as the outer edge of the band I would have thought of," Sen. Geoff Michel, R-Edina, said as Republicans inched early Wednesday toward control of the Senate, which the party has not held since the early 1970s. "There's no doubt we were outgunned, and outspent."
"It's unbelievable," said state Sen. Dick Cohen, DFL-St. Paul, reacting sourly to the results of the legislative races. "Just an unbelievable night."

Whoo Hah! Too bad about Emer but this HUGH! For Blue State MN! :)
Too little too on what they sent to Washington..
That is great news for your state! I, however, am trapped here in Massachusetts where the electorate when completely RAT! Our state government and all US Congressional seats went RAT again! Our state is a mess and yet the idiots vote the same big gov’t high spending jerks back in year after year. One of our districts (not mine) even put Barney Frank back in.
My husband wants to move (we can’t) but maybe someday....
So Minnesota enjoy!
Now, Mark Dayton(D) NEEDS to lose, but it’s razor close...........
If he lost, it would be the perfect MN sweep.
I doubt it.
I share your pain I live In Connecticut ,this Crap state went totally Rat,the Republican is as I speak Slightly ahead,Wednesday Morning ,for Governor, but the fix is in In the Inner City heavy Minority, they did not print enough Ballots ,they ran out last night so they photo copied Ballots and kept the polls open an extra 2 hours in 100 percent democrat districts and they have to HAND count the Photo copied ballots because they wont go through the scanners, talk about fraud, the House democrat won by 500 votes,he voted for Healthcare.
Did they oust the Dem Sec. of State? That’s where the elections that are close are won or lost (ala Franken).
Congrats on gains in taking back your state!
I’m in CA and also stuck here. But, looking at what has happened for a century, where could we actually go? After all, the FEDS have taken over so much and ‘leveled’ all states to look, act and march in tune to the Federal portrait of what we the people should be!
Redistricting, here comes the RED tide!!!!
Sadly, the people who could left your state.
I suspect New Hampshire will acquire a populations surge from MA anytime now.
Automatic recount is coming for the Emmer race, and the GOP should be smarter this time around.
After the passage of Obamacare, there are no pro-life democrats, anywhere.
Unfortunately no --- we still have the crooked bast####
I was talking about the Minnesota legislature, whose numbers have always included pro-life Democrats. If you look at MCCL's Voters Guide, you'll find Minnesota Democrats whose career pro-life voting records are in the 70-100 percent range, e.g., 1st District Democrats Russ Walker and Dave Olin, the 2nd District's Kent Eken, the 4th District's Mary Olson, et al.
Nationally, Minnesota's Collin Peterson has been a 99 percent pro-life voter throughout his career. Peterson voted against Obamacare, and he's cast 85 pro-life votes out of 86 during his tenure in the House.
Thanks for the clarification.
