The Maine Secretary of State's Office has revised its policy on early or absentee voters who want to change their votes, in response to legal questioning Monday by the campaign of independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler.

But the policy crafted Monday, to allow an early voter to "re-vote" if they claim their first ballot did not reflect their true intent, was not communicated to municipal clerks, said Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.

If Democrats continue to “improve upon” our democracy, there will be no longer any point in voting because people will be too busy shooting.

This is asinine.... Re-vote? And what safeguard is there that someone won’t just vote 2 (or 3 or more) times and all votes counted?

Well they have to vote 3 times. the second time cancels out the first, then they get the actual vote on the third.

Of course a dishonest voter would actually get 4X votes this way!

Maybe they should just re-think early voting.

The system could be made secure: forward absentee/early ballots, still in sealed envelopes, to the voter's normal polling place. If a voter shows up before polls close, he has the option of requesting his ballot (with signature and ID confirmed by election judges of both parties), confirming that the outer envelope is still properly sealed, and either submitting the ballot as is, or spoiling it and requesting a new one. The only way an absentee/early voter would be allowed in the polling place would be if the absentee/early ballot were pulled, so the person would still only get a chance to have one ballot go into the box.
