Cornyn: GOP would 'welcome' party switch by Joe Lieberman

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Senate Republicans would "welcome" any Democrats who wish to switch parties and caucus with the GOP.

Cornyn, the head of Senate Republicans' campaign efforts, floated the possibility that the GOP might target Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.), an Independent who caucuses with Democrats, or another Democratic senator if Republicans come close to winning a majority but fall short.

"I think he votes like a Republican on those areas, and we would certainly welcome him or any other Democrat who wants to switch sides of the aisle and caucus with us," Cornyn said of Lieberman during an Election Day appearance on Fox News.

We already have his vote on national defense. We don’t need him to become a Republican!

Perhaps Joe Lieberman should just refuse to caucus with either party! He is an independent.

There ya go...

The RINO’s have been keeping Joe in reserve as a substitute for Castle.

We can just rent his vote if (notice not when) we need it.

Fist of all, I would very much doubt a sweeping statement like that, and...

Being Conservative on national defense issues is about the ONLY thing he's Conservative on, so F**K him.

We need to get RID of Progressive RINOs like Mccain, Graham, Snowe, Collins, and their ilk that have ALREADY infiltrated our party, WHY IN THE HELL would we want to draft LARGELY LEFT-WING demonRATS into our party?

Lieberman can switch to Republican if he wants to, but it won’t change my efforts to get real conservatives in Congress.

Ol’ Joe Libberman, the conscience of the Senate, surely does swivel around like a weather vane.

The “reaching across the aisle” has started before election results are in. I guess that nothing has changed so far.

Lieberman will team up with Juan and Lindsey often enough as it is. He’s a lib and would add nothing the Republican party. (And he’s not going to do this, anyway. (Well, unless McMahon should pull off the upset, then...))

Agree. If we wanted RINOs we didn't have to defeat any in the primaries. And Lieberman would be a RINO with a capital R! But I guess if he forced himself on the party...

Notice that Cornyn didn’t just say that Lieberman was welcome, he said that “any Democrat was welcome”, and he said this on Fox News.

The Conservative spirit is not in Joe. Personally, I like the guy.

We need fresh, new blood in DC though. Not ANYONE susceptible to "back room" deals because they have been around so long and are looking to extend their stay.
Sorry Joe.

Cornyn should start by asking McCain and Graham.

I wrote to this clown, gave him my full name and contact information and asked how he could support that anus, Arlen Specter. No answer.

Cornyn's record is superb: Specter, Crist, Castle, Lowden, Murkowski all endorsed. All losers and all endorsed by Cornyn. I was a Democrat (60's and 70's), was a Republican (80's and 90's) and became an Independent several years ago.

I have followed enthusiastically the Tea Party since virtually its inception. I attended the 9/12/09 Tea Party in Washington and also the Beck Echumenical Council of 8/28/10. I am from New Orleans and know first hand large crowds (think Mardi Gras) and the number of attendees at each of these functions clearly exceeded 500,000.

Where do we go from here? First, I think we have to button-hole the lame ducks and bring whatever pressure to bear that we can - maybe have their replacements sit in the galleries and/or outside their offices. Tell their house (from their state) colleagues that unless they bring pressure on the duck not to do anything foolish - like leaving before extending the tax cuts or voting for cap and tax, etc. or their scalp is next.

Sorry about the rant, but fear is a wonderful motivator. Copy Cornyn on every transmission.

We don’t need another RINO. Only thing Liberman votes great on is terror and defense, otherwise he votes with the dems.

I hope Cornyn has a primary opponent in 4 years.

First things first - we need to get rid of Kay Bailey in 2012 and then Cornyn in 2014. It’s amazing that as big as Texas is that we have two such irresponsible RINO senators.
