Gary Condit repeatedly refused to say whether he had sex with intern Chandra Levy Monday in testimony in her accused killer's trial.
The former Democratic congressman from California told Washington prosecutor Amanda Haines he has never revealed whether he and Levy were intimate in the nine years since her disappearance, CNN reported.
Asked whether he would answer the question, Condit said: "We've lost our feeling for common decency. I didn't commit any crime. I didn't do anything wrong."
When defense attorney Maria Hawilo asked if he was invoking his right against self-incrimination, Condit said he would not respond because it is "not relevant" and he is entitled to privacy, The Washington Post reported.
His testimony concluded just after 3 p.m
Levy, 24, vanished in 2001. Her remains were found more than a year later in Washington's Rock Creek Park.
Condit was never a suspect.
Ingmar Guandique is on trial for her killing. Prosecutors say he attacked Levy as she jogged in the park and killed her when she began to scream.
Guandique denies the charge, and there is no physical evidence linking him to the crime, leaving prosecutors to base their case largely on an alleged prison confession.

Yes, and if the Court failed to order Condit to answer (and the objection was made properly), way to cause a mistrial.

I recall that Condit and Levi were the headline on Fox and Friends at 7:30 AM on September 11, 2001. Obviously, they didn’t stay in the headlines that horrible day.
Is or was there a Mrs. Condit? ...she may have cared.

It is not relevant to the prosecution. But it is relevant to the defense because their job is to raise reasonable doubt. Pointing to other potential assailants who may have a motive to kill the victim. An illicit affair raises the spectre of such a motive.

I completely understand the law... and if the judge does not compel Condit to testify as to sex... then he agrees also.
Now nick... I never said that. I said that whether they had sex or not is not relevant IMHO... if the judge forces the testimony or jails Condit for obstruction... then I was wrong. You make it sound as if I am trying to railroad this other guy... which I am not. It is just an opinion... no more... no less.

Never a suspect? Am I missing something here? He was the focus of the police investigation early on ... his apartment was searched for evidence and he was questioned by the Washington, DC police.
See my posts where I state that if the judge compels him to testify as to sex... then I was wrong in my opinion... if the judge does not force him to testify about it... then he agrees that in this case, it is not relevant. Either way... it is just an opinion.

They’ve got NOTHING....NOTHING on the immigrant...no evidence whatsoever!! I still think it was the EVIL brother of Condit and his other brother with Condit’s approval, of course! Just my opinion.
Have not really folled this case much, but if all the prosecutor has is an alleged jailhouse confession, I would not vote guilty.

I beg to differ. Gary was having an affair with this young lady. That is why he was being investigated. Right?
An affair is very much part of any murder investigation if TV crime shows are right. Most people are murdered by people they know. He ‘ruined’ his own life by breaking the rules. Not innocent in any way.

Why is this guy, the suspect, being prosecuted for then? Somebody said somebody said somebody he did it or one of those who said “I killed the Lindbergh baby”.
I agree... and she should castrate him if he did... but again... that is between Condit and his wife... if she exists.

Chandra excitedly told her aunt she was having an affair with Condit and was hoping he would leave his wife and be with her, and was dreading her internship ending and having to go back home.
Condit’s sometime paramour, the flight attendant, often saw very long, curly, dark hairs (exactly like Chandra’s) around Condit’s bedroom and also knew he was seeing a girl with that hair type.
We all know he was shtupping Chandra.
Condit DARES talk about decency, does he??? He of the wife back home and interns in his bed???
