When I was a teen in the 80's, we loaded up in a pickup truck to do some egging and eventually had shots taken at us. There were 3 shots fired and two hit the tailgate and one was unaccounted for. I think it must have been a .22 or something fairly small.

We were where we shouldn't have been, doing things we shouldn't have been doing (if you catch my drift). Very scary moment.

Same kind of story as yours except one of my buddies on the football team got ran over when our pickup was backing up. Fortunately, he was not hurt (too bad). Being one of the ring leaders, my coach darn near threw me off the team over that one :)
