I do not think you quite understand what you are looking at, the second photo is using a telephoto lens to pick up the crowd a quarter of a mile or more from the front.
Umm, right, and look at the same angle for the 9-12 rally (which was MUCH smaller than the Beck rally). There were not nearly as many. There are several threads around here with the calculations.
