That is partly true. Of course, you need a college degree to get some of these mundane jobs anymore.

You are way too logical. It's like anything else, when something becomes a glut on the market there is little demand for it at a high price, or even at a low price in some cases. In the case of excess college degrees, McDonalds doesn't care what kind of degree you have, just how well you can speed a satisfied customer through.
