The joint editorial board of the Iosco County News-Herald and Oscoda Press endorses the following candidates for election on Tuesday, Nov. 2, each selected after long consideration and viewing a number of factors, primarily what is good for Iosco County, Northeast Michigan and Michigan. We looked for candidates who can conceivably change the status quo and revolutionize cumbersome federal, state and local government. Like our pick for governor, we believe Michigan is broken, over taxed, over regulated and needs innovative thinkers and doers, not the career politicians who helped bring this great state to her knees. We strongly recommend:

Good news, thanks for sharing it.
Hey Jenk! As a mid Michigan guy it does my heart good to hear names like Oscoda, Alpena, And Da’ UP. It is God’s Country for sure. Keep up the good work. Oh Wait! Pelston! LOL Usually the coldest spot in the state.
Spent some time on that base. Nice to see the endorsement.
I really want Benishek to win. This is one of the races I have been watching most closely.
Oscoda!
Haven’t heard that place name in years, we used to load up the Ford station wagon and go camping and fishing near there in the late 60’s when I was a kid.
The old folks would go dancing at the Oscoda Ball Room, a place that had old crime story newspaper clippings framed on the walls and dummies dressed as gangsters for decorations; complete w/pin striped suits, fedoras, cigars and Tommy guns.
I guess it was a hide out area for the Detroit Mob back in the ‘20s and ‘30s, like similar places in Wisconsin for the Capone gang.
Beautiful area.
hey, don’t forget Petoskey, there is a GOP rally going on in Petoskey tomorrow, with Herman Cain and Dan Benishek!
I had no idea! I’m from Rogers City, didn’t know about all the stuff in Oscoda. Very cool.
Yep - 12pm @ Petoskey High School Gymnasium
Well, it was back in the 60’s, I’m 52 now and haven’t been back there for 40 years so I don’t know if any of its still there.
As I recall there wasn’t much else outside the camp ground except the ball room and a little general store down the way a bit.
Still and all, for a 10 year old, going swimming, fishing, and hiking with my brother, cousins and parents all day then listening to a Tiger’s game on the radio while we had a fish fry of the day’s catch, was pure heaven.
you make it sound great!
