Two Democrats Trail in Latest Poll (CT)
NBC ^ | 29 Oct 2010 | BY Bob Connors

Two of Connecticut's Democratic Congressmen are in dead heats in a new poll with just days to go before Election Day.

5th District Congressman Chris Murphy is trailing his Republican challenger Sam Caliguiri by a slim margin in the poll conducted by the Merriman River Group.

Caliguri has 46.9 percent of the vote to Murphy's 45.5 percent, according to the poll commissioned by CT Capitol Report.

The poll does have some good news for Murphy, who is seeking his third term in Congress.

"It appears that Representative Chris Murphy has closed the gap in recent days," the poll's director Matthew Fitch said. "That's a difficult feat for an incumbent to do, but he has yet to break 50 percent at any point in our polling and time is running out."

In the 4th district, Republican challenger Dan Debicella holds a two-point lead over incumbent Democrat Jim Himes 48.0 percent to 46.1 percent.

Himes hopes to get a boost from a visit from President Obama in Bridgeport on Saturday.

"With the President coming to Bridgeport for Representative Himes, the question continues to focus on turnout," Fitch said. "It is clear that Representative Himes will win Bridgeport by a large percentage, but he may need at least 30,000 people to come out to vote from that city to offset expected losses in the rest of the district."

The poll shows Himes is struggling with male voters, and with people who identify with the Tea Party.

"Dan Debicella is winning Tea Party voters by a 10-1 margin, while Himes leads everyone else," Fitch said.

On Tuesday the Demagogues should be like the helpless Black Knight in the great Monty Python skit:

Last thing I’ve heard, we could pick up one seat in Maine, two in New Hampshire, two in Massachusetts, one in Rhode Island, and two in Connecticut. That would be a pickup of eight of the 22 New England seats. Hope they aren’t all RINOs.

NOT dead heats

Polls do have a + or - error of maybe 3 percent, so if they are within that margin of error, they are considered dead heats.

My better half (now a Conservative)grew up in Mystic, Connecticut and that would be a miracle for sure. I will believe it when I see. My in-law's are all Democrats 100%. I pray all of 13 Colonies have seen the light.

Oh yeah - The folks here are dyed in the wool. But I have noticed that you rarely see an Obama bumper sticker anymore, so that’s a good thing. And it does seem that I see more Caliguri yard signs than Murphy, which is encouraging. Poor you with all those Dem in-laws...the holidays must be torture!!

With the President coming to Bridgeport to stump for Rep Himes, he will win Bridgeport by a large percentage, but Hines may need at least 30,000 people to vote from that city to offset losses in the rest of the district.

Oh joy---a last minute fly-in. That's what turned it around for Scott Brown (R-Mass) when he snatched the Senate seat last Jan that the Kennedys held for 50 years. Ohaha's dissing Scott Brown's truck was the clincher.

Conn Dem's campaign vehicle.

Make sure those in Meriden, Middletown and Cheshire in Caligiuri’s district come out for Len Suzio for State Senate.

False flag event to attempt to unify the country and portray some level of competence by the administration? I was wondering that myself. This administration fosters that kind of pessimism.

I don’t think so. The 3rd district is heavily democrat, unionized, academia and with a large population of urban minorities.

Only way DeLauro will leave office is feet first.

Sad.

watching Hines introduce Obozo -- simply the fact that Obozo has to have a rally in blue blue Bridgeport CT just 3 days before the election says it all about the plight of these 'Rats....

"Though Barack Obama is not on the ballot, all that he stands for.... is on the ballot"

Rep. Jim Hines (D), Bridgeport, CT

intelligent ‘Rats would have tried to avoid making 2010 a referendum on Obozo, but Obama himself said this kind of thing recently and now Hines is saying it in introducting the Bozo-in-Chief

“Yes We Can” (Obama just said it — ha haaaaaaaa)

That's about the dumbest thing Hines could have said....in this political environment.
