On the heels of a Landmark Communications poll showing Jim Marshall down by 16, a new poll in the 8th Congressional District also has the Democrat down by double digits.
The Hill, a congressional newspaper that publishes daily when Congress is in session, found 50% of voters say they will support Republican Austin Scott with just 37% backing Marshall.
10% of voters in The Hill survey were undecided.
Looking a little deeper into the numbers, it appears folks still like Jim Marshall they just dont plan to vote for him. As The Hill reports Ironically, voters give the four-term lawmaker high marks: Forty-five percent rated him favorably, compared to the 40 percent who rated him unfavorably. Scott had higher ratings, however, with 50 percent giving him favorable marks compared to 19 percent who didnt.
The Hill poll was conducted Oct. 19-21 by Penn Schoen & Berland. The survey consisted of 400 phone interviews among likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
Penn Schoen & Berland is a research firm known mainly for its work with the Clinton Administration during the 1996 elections and more recently with Hillary Clinton in her own bid for the White House.

A couple of months ago, this was a Charlie Cook “Likely D” seat. Now it looks all but gone for the Dems.
It’s going to be a good night on Tuesday.
Yes, and a couple months ago Charlie Cook said we were only going to get 20 seats are 30 seats in Congress,
And that stupid Rothenberg said the same thing.
So, likely Democratic seats are now 17 point Republican favorites?
120 seats in Congress?
Way back in the early summer, I wrote down my optimistic and pessimistic predictions for the House. My pessimistic was +36, and the optimistic was about +80. I’ve been thinking somewhere in the middle of that range for months now, but there’s this gut feeling I have that with a big, big Republican turnout in a few days, the high end of my range might not be high enough. We’ll see.
More on this particular district: according to Cook’s PVI ratings, GA-8 is the 14th-most Republican seat which currently held by a Democrat. (Gene Taylor’s in MS is 1st, Chet Edwards’ in TX is 2nd, etc.) Marshall is toast, and so is at least one of the other guys I just mentioned.
Chet Edwards, the MOST conservative RAT in Congress is going down ...
Edwards was the one I had in mind. He’s going to get trounced. Taylor will be a closer race I suspect because of his voting record and personal popularity, but given how deep red that district is, I don’t really think it would take a huge effort to topple him this time. If it’s a tsunami, he’s going down too.
Chet is NOT that conservative, but his district is.
He is toast.
