I agree with you on the desired goal. However that still does not put the questions to rest. People tend to do what they ‘want’ to do and that is not always what they are ‘told’ to do.

Many people, myself included, do not like being told HOW to vote or HOW to think. People are not robots and they are not, although there are exceptions, mindless robots.

Many a good plan has gone bad because the intended ‘target’ did not react as was planned. “The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men, Gang aft agley”, Robert Burns, I believe.

Who knows what goes on inside the polling booth. Not even the Church has monitors standing there watching how one votes. When I am asked how I voted, I tell them it is none of their business. It is not their business cause it is a matter conscience inside the polling booth. Ill mannered and uncouth individuals are the only ones who would stoop to even ask such a question.

I was raised to think for myself and I raised my children the same way. You must come to that conclusion through your own thought and searching ... not because someone tells you to think that way.

The human mind is what is at play here, not political philosophy. You can be sure the liberal press with yell and point fingers at this statement. You can be sure that liberal politicians will do the same. It is their MO.

The questions are valid.

We call those Cafeteria Catholics and they are not Catholics.

Jesus spoke about these people in Revelation:

Rev 3:14-17
14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation.
15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
16 So, because you are lukewarm-- neither hot nor cold-- I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
(NIV)

I believe Jesus describes these folks...

“People are not robots and they are not, although there are exceptions, mindless robots.”

A large majority of dems ARE mindless robots. I remember when the unions’ leadership was ordering their drooling members to vote for JFK — and the members did it. In our church were several people who worked on Ford assembly lines and they were in a quandry as to do the right thing or do what their leadership instructed.

Catholics are required to go to confession. As part of confession the confessor often prompts the sinner to report certain sins they may have committed. If the sinner does not report the offense, or lies about it, they do not get absolution. So the confessors should ask about the sin of supporting abortion, and as part of the penance require the sinner never to repeat the sin. The Catholic then has been informed that he has the choice of either supporting abortion OR being a Catholic.
