Daylight Savings seems like the stupid idea of some bureaucrat. What is the point now, really - except to make it dark at 4pm in the winter in the N. half of the USA?

You could check with Ben Franklin, who first suggested it. In a world lit only by candles, an extra hour of sunlight during working hours makes a big difference.
