When government adopts the core moral idea driving same-sex marriage, its going to change the meaning of marriage for everyone, and in ways that will make it very hard for those most committed to marriagetraditional faith communitiesto act on our values in public and therefore to transmit these values to the next generation.
Nothing is inevitable but death and taxes. The reason this argument is so powerful and dangerous is that it is the definition of victory in war. When is a war over? Not when one side is obliterated but when it loses the will to fight for what it sees as right. Culture wars too. If they can persuade us there is no hope, then they will have created the conditions under which there is no hope.
Communists too used to say the future belonged inevitably to them. Where are they now? Regimes that are based on lies about human nature require an enormous amount of energy to prop up, and in the end, they fail.
