New Poll Sheds Light on Arkansas Voters [Obamacare takes its toll]

According to the new Arkansas Poll, voters will choose Republican John Boozman over Democrat Blanche Lincoln. But the report also sheds some light on the issues Arkansans will consider as they cast their ballots.

The poll showed that one of the main issues in this election is health care, and it revealed a big shift in how people felt about it 6 years ago, and they feel about it today.

In 2004 the Arkansas Poll asked voters how they felt about a plan to provide health insurance for those who didn't have it, these were the results.

“80% of our sample said yes they wanted to extend health insurance coverage to pretty much every adult,” said Janine Parry of the Arkansas Poll. “And we know that's kind of easy in the abstract so we asked a follow up question well would you be willing to pay more taxes because that makes it more specific. Still more than 60% of our sample said yes in 2004.”

Six years later, a big difference. When the poll asked Arkansans about the federal health care law passed in March, only 27% approved of the law, 53% disapproved. Even people who don't have insurance. Only 35% approved of the law, and 42% disapproved.

Perry says there are many factors that contribute to the change.

“It’s something I think they support in the general form but now it’s taken the specific form in an economy that's very different than it was in 2004 and suddenly right our positions have flipped.”

And some voters will keep that in mind as they head to the polls this Tuesday.

“Any candidate that supports Obamacare I fully oppose,” one voter says.

But others say it won’t affect their decision, and voters should be more informed.

“I can see where they’re hesitant from lack of information or misinformation because it’ll only get worse if we don't have health care coverage.”

The poll also shows increase in independent voters, and most of them said they felt closer to the Republican Party.

The Arkansas Poll is released annually. This is the 12th year the poll has been conducted.

No Social Security COLA for two years, increased health insurance costs, and the coming death panels prob. changed their minds.

I distinctly recall an interview with Senator (for a while longer) Lincoln where she said that she trusted Slick Willie’s take on Obamacare, and that she would be voting for it because Slick said they’d lost in 1994 because they hadn’t pushed Hillarycare hard enough, and the same applied to Obamacare in 2010, Lol.
