WASHINGTON Republican leaders, ever more confident of their chances of winning control of the House and possibly even the Senate, have begun plotting a 2011 agenda topped by a push for more than $100 billion in spending cuts, tax reductions and attempts to undo key parts of President Barack Obama's health care and financial regulation laws.
The question is how much of the GOP's government-shrinking, tax-cutting agenda to advance, and how fast.
It's certain that Republicans want to capitalize quickly on tea party-fueled anger and the antiestablishment fervor that they believe will provide momentum to accomplish an activist to-do list. It's equally clear, however, that the outsized expectations of a fed-up electorate and a crop of unruly newcomers could complicate the plans. So could Obama and fellow Democrats who will still be around after Tuesday's elections.
GOP lawmakers are publicly mum about much of what they intend to do if they prevail in midterm congressional contests. Many say privately they want to avoid appearing to "measure the drapes" for new leadership offices before winning any majority.

Hey, a guy can still dream , right? ;-)
With a $1.3 TRILLION dollar deficit they goddam well better be looking to cut a lot more than $100billion
I am partial to Bachmann too .. should Mike opt to run for Gub in Indiana.
If DeMint doesn’t want the Senate job, then Sessions will do.
They won’t try to impeach him. Not yet anyway. But the spending cuts are good to see.
All of it and immediately.
Yes, it better be a TRILLION!
$100 billion, in light of the actual debt, is a very modest step.
That’s just the savings from giving back the car companies to their shareholders.
Pathetic! Reduce the deficit from $1.3 trillion down to $1.2 trillion!
1) Take the $300-$400 billion unspent stimulis money and tear up that bad check. Instant $300-$400 billion deficit reduction. 2) Reinstate the 1996 Welfare Reform Act which the Stimulus Act did away with. 3) Instant moratorium on the Financial Regulation Act. Instant job creation and increased federal revenues means deficit reduction. Then tear the Act up. 4) Instant moratorium on ObamaCare. Instant job creation and increased federal revenues means deficit reduction. Then tear the act up.
Anything less and we are back to RINO-Ville!
Can't the new congress just enact legislation that de-funds the bill?
Only $100 billion? That’s a pittance compared to what the Democrats have added.
“a push for more than $100 billion in spending cuts . . . “
Huh? Obama just added 1.5 trillion a year and the GOP thinks a 7% cut in that is anything more than tokenism.
Start by restoring 2008 spending levels. Then cut from there. We were already spending too much.
Cut more than $100 billion. Much more.
Problem is they can cut...but as with ALL administrations gov’t always gets bigger..They will make cuts for future spending but until the time the American public can live with real (ie less benefits) cuts in SS, medicare, other entitlements not much will change. We’ve all gotten use to “our” various perks and people will not give them up
Don’t like counting “chickens” before they are hatched. The cheating and fraud are going to be colossal. Just hope we can overcome with Republican votes so massive that cheating will not matter.
...oh, and Lindsey Graham can stuff it. This is not the same old, same old party and we do NOT want to play nice with Obama.
#1 item should be protecting the right to vote for all citizens. A ten to 20 year sentence in federal prison should be the cheaters reward.
Step One: get rid of the entire $1.3 trillion deficit in one year.
Step Two: the government will still be too big and intrusive. Cut some more.
If conservatives start rationalizing inaction this soon, then what’s the point of voting at all?
I’m sorry. Just getting “our side” to Washington is NOT victory.
REPEAL & DEFUND laws and remove for cause ALL the CZARS. Then bring up charges against all the criminal actions taken by the last Congress , cabinet members included.
