Charles Town, WV (CNN) - As he stumps for a string of Republicans in increasingly bitter races, Sen. John McCain warned candidates against overconfidence and defended recent searing attacks on his Democratic colleagues.
"These are harsh times," he said, in response to a reporter's question about his criticism of Sen. Barbara Boxer and a conference call in which he slammed Sen. Patty Murray over the use of earmarks.

Screw you, Juan.
"I have to tell you, [Obama] is a decent person, a person that you
do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States."
U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, 10 OCT. 2008
Made more possible by McCain Feingold which put the Dems in power 2006/2008 including O and allowed Congress and Cong Black Caucus to let Fannie and Freddie go “wilding.”
“....searing attacks on his Democratic colleagues.”
When you get a minute, John, let us know how we can tell the difference.
McCain in West Virginia with Raese...that won’t make the news....it should, but it won’t.
Thanks to you MCain
John McCain is as responsible for giving us Obama as anyone. I would say he should retire with dignity but he has none left.
You are re-writing history. The true black hat here is George W. Bush.
Harsh indeed, Juan. How many millions did you spend trashing JD?
When will this old fool just STFU? He is ga-ga. He shouldn’t be running for re-election. He is an embarrassment to his state.
Captain Quig orders all guns to fire at his ship...
There are many black hats. It just so happens McCain ran against Obama and blew it. GW's problem was trying to be the nice guy in a position where being nice doesn't cut it. He spent too much money and and tried to play footsies with illegals. But I would much rather have him than Obama.
If you will look back at the GOP Convention, McCain-Palin were ahead of Obama-Biden by about 5 points at the end of August. They could have easily won it because the ticket was doing well.
Then the Stock Market fell apart . . in large part because of Bush’s incompetence and his surrenders to the Democrats during his 8 years. I don’t have to rehash all of the liberal legislation that Bush signed, nor all the bad decisions that he made in the Iraqi War.
I think McCain is much better than GW Bush . but you are entitled to your own opinions.
Please present your evidence. John McCain has sucked up to Democrats so many times I have lost count. How about McCain Fiengold that suppressed free speech? Illegal amnesty? Granted Bush was in on that. Trust me on this, McCain, if reelected, will jump the fence at the first opportunity to suck up to Democrats.
Remind me again who signed McCain Feingold legislation.
We both know the answer to that. How does that let McCain off the hook?
