Early voting numbers for the Nov. 2 general election are coming in, and Republicans are showing an early lead in number of ballots cast in Florida.
About 150,000 more Republicans than Democrats have cast early ballots, either in person or by absentee.
Ronnie Whitaker, the executive director of the Republican Party of Florida, said the state's gubernatorial and senate candidates are driving the turnout.
"One of the things you see is having Rick Scott and Marco Rubio at the top of the ticket," Whitaker said. "There's a lot of enthusiasm around the state for those two, and I think that's why you're seeing it different here than you are in other states."
In 2008, Democrats overwhelmingly capturing the early vote in Florida. Republicans turned out on election day, but by then Barack Obama had a 360,000 vote edge and had already effectively won Florida.
I mailed in my ballot yesterday.....
Good on you! If you were close I would share my Snickers bar with you.
My wife and I mailed ours in (absentee from Fort Carson) about a week and a half ago.
