The whole point of the Catholic doctrine of the temporal order is that there are certain rights, duties and principles that transcend our volatile convictions and majorities. If you can put your anti-catholicism aside for a moment, when your favorite politicians or thinker says that citizens have certain rights, is such politician or thinker speaking as a grantor or “dictator” of said rights or is he just reminding a fact to his listeners/readers?

When the next Pope comes along and contradicts the previous Pope who will be the grantor or dictator of your rights then?
