A farewell to Harry and Nancy: Democratic spending spree amounts to $1,035 monthly tax

To be ready for Election Day, savvy shoppers already have stocked up on sympathy cards from the Capitol Gift Shop.

Current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, will be most in need of cheering up, as she is unlikely to wield a gavel next year. The only question, according to the polls, is whether Republicans can defy the odds and sweep the tight races needed to wrest control of the Senate, too. Either way, it's best to have a card prepared for current Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who's trailing Republican challenger Sharron Angle in the most recent surveys.

That public sentiment has shifted away from Democrats is hardly surprising. The rhetoric of hope and change lifted spirits in the euphoric days of President Obama's inauguration. Now the reality has sunk in that beneath the lofty words on the teleprompter were endless spending sprees. People have seen firsthand that the public sector expands only at the expense of private-sector growth. Voters intuitively realize this unsustainable path is going to cost them.

In fact, every American taxpayer will have to make the equivalent of a $1,035 monthly Obama payment solely to cover the cost of the president's spending excess. That's the monthly share, per taxpayer, of the $3 trillion in debt that Mr. Obama has accumulated since he moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

-snip-

That's why a Rasmussen Reports poll released yesterday found that an overwhelming 83 percent of Americans think that massive spending cuts, such as those announced last week in Britain, will happen in the United States.

-snip-

Perhaps, then, it's not too early to pick up a sympathy card for Mr. Obama.

Get out and vote for the GOP on November 2nd like your lives depended on it ... because they do!

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid have got to be the two most incompetent and hardline ideological leftists that America has ever had in leadership of the two houses in the Congress.

They have been political, economic, and fiscal weapons of mass destruction against the nation. Under their tenure, America economically and fiscally has taken greater losses and hits than it has during times of war in its history --- so inept and so completely cavalier are they in their mismanagement of the nation's fiscal and economic affairs.

In fact, Speaker Pelosi & Senator Reid are so damnedly derelict in their duties that, in violation of federal law, they have not even bothered to draft a budget for the coming fiscal year. If ever there was a group in power so completely unsuited for the task of governing a great nation, it surely has been the Socialists under Pelosi, Reid, and Obama --- it is going to take years to undo all of the damage that they have created in the form of indebtedness, larger government, health care deform, and economic strangulation created by greater federal government overregulation.

Throw them all out next week and in 2012 --- do it for the nation and for the sake of the next generation!!!! America can bear such malefactors no longer.

Oh brother. Nancy is not going anywhere. Her mug will be all over Sunday TV for the next two years blaming Republicans for how horrible they are in the Majority. She will probably believe she will win in 2012 again. I still can’t believe that people actually are happy about Boehner being House Leader again....Yuck. I wish we could change to someone else....Michelle Bachmann would be great. Quite frankly there are many better candidates than Boehner.

The trick for the Republicans will be managing expectations. Something Obama completely failed at. We are, in fact, in a lot of trouble. Without pointing fingers, we need to recognize this fact and figure out what we are going to do about it.

Obama offered “Hope” and “Change” which amounted to a little less than mere than wishful thinking. More wishful thinking of a different type (”tax cuts” or what-have-you) with a different brand isn’t going to help. (I am not deriding tax cuts per se, but tax cuts alone are not sufficient to right the economy.)

As I see there are at least four bitter pills we need to swallow.

1.) The economy is in the throes of a nearly thirty year long housing bubble
2.) Social Security cannot possibly deliver on its promises
3.) Our current medical insurance/payment system is a mess (and ObamaCare is clearly not the cure.)
4.) The trouble with American education is the same as the problem with Soviet agriculture, it demands ever greater inputs and returns few and shoddier outputs.
