Wonder if the machine itself was so archaic that it was not as simple as flipping an electrical switch, that it had to be manually “primed” or sumfin.

There was another article posted yesterday that contained more information. In that article, the nurse turned off the support machine, at which time an alarm sounded. She then tried to turn it back on.
If this is correct, it appears that her action to terminate life support was deliberate.
