Joe McCarthy was never a Congressman and he never was chairman of the House Committee on Un-American Activities -- BTW NOT HUAC. Savage insists on calling it HUAC and I believe this is at least the second time he's put McCarthy on the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Tain't so, McGee.

HUAC, I know is a common acronym, but the name House Un-American Activities Committee is an aspersion -- like the word McCartyism itself -- that was coined and used by CP/USA, progressives, et al to destroy the House Committee on Un-American Activities. It worked. The House Committee on Un-American Activities was destroyed in the 1960s I believe.
BTW, I watched some of the Senate hearings live on TV. Some witnesses may have been "victims" of McCarthy but a lot were defiant, contemptuous and arrogant. I remember Edward R. Murrow's signal to the press (1953?) that it was okay to go after McCarthy and destroy him. It worked. He was destroyed completely about four years later I believe.
.. and all this before Alinsky wrote Rules For Spoiled Brats. It still works.
