NPR's Firing of Juan Williams Was Poorly Handled
NPR.org ^ | 10/21/2010 | ALICIA SHEPARD

Juan Williams once again got himself into trouble with NPR for comments he made at his other job, at Fox News. And NPR's reaction has unleashed an unprecedented firestorm of criticism directed not at Williams – but at NPR.

(snip)

Thursday was a day like none I’ve experienced since coming to NPR in October 2007. Office phone lines rang non-stop like an alarm bell with no off button. We’ve received more than 8,000 emails, a record with nothing a close second.

(snip)

At noon, the deluge of email crashed NPR’s “Contact Us” form on the web site.

If the employees of NPR close up and jump off a bridge all will be forgiven....

This article from 2009 should help explain some of the idiocy at NPR:

Last year, Vivian Schiller was a well-regarded executive in charge of the digital operations of the New York Times Co.

Last year, Vivian Schiller was a well-regarded executive in charge of the digital operations of the New York Times Co. (NYT). She was so happy with her job that she welled up with emotion when she told her boss Arthur Sulzberger that she was leaving to become the chief executive of National Public Radio.

Schiller, "arguably the nation's most powerful woman in media" per More magazine, has also worked at overhauling NPR. She has added new VPs of development and strategic operations, and its revamped Web site lets nonprofits post its archival footage free of charge.

NPR did not disclose Schiller's salary, but pays its top talent less than commercial media does. Steve Inskeep and Renee Montaigne, co-hosts of NPR's Morning Edition, each earn more than $300,000 a year, according to IRS filings provided by Guidestar. By comparison, Brian Williams, anchor of NBC Nightly News, earns roughly $6 million annually, according to The Boston Globe.

FOX News was really the intended target in this fiasco.

My take on this - they couldn't fire Glenn Beck since he didn't work for them. So they went after whatever they could get - Juan.

Follow the money - I suspect that Soros is lurking in the background as always. Why is that man still among the living?

Fear may drive their hate but they are certainly hate-filled. They loathe any black man who dares to have a mind of his own.

I would think 100% of black conservatives would agree.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP! Apparently, Nina Furstenburg wishing AIDS on Jesse Helms and his children is not a personal attack, by NPR’s “standards”. And apparently, it does not count as a personal attack.

Bottom line is that NPR blew this one BIG TIME. And the local affiliates will pay the price. So long, Cookie Monster, it was nice knowing you.

BTW, wasn’t another black man fired by NPR the same day? NPR is racist! That is what LIBs REALLY think of blacks.

This gives us somewhat of an idea of the pay jump that Juan just made.

He surely was making under $300,000 annually ... now up to a $2 million, 3 year contract. Time to buy a new home.

No wonder liberals are afraid of guns. They have an incredible propensity for shooting themselves in the foot.

I read most of the article but gave up. It was spin and defense of NPR action. Mohamet Somebody got a lot of his comments posted to the article without further biographical explanation. And lastly, Williams was having his character assassinated all over again. Screw NPR, All Things being Considered.

CAIR got Williams fired. Everyone ignores this fact. They have a lot of power.

It should be noted that the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent around a press release on Wednesday afternoon. CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad called for action against Williams: “Such irresponsible and inflammatory comments would not be tolerated if they targeted any other racial, ethnic or religious minority, and they should not pass without action by NPR.” The New York Times somehow omitted CAIR from its Juan-is-gone story.

YES! That fact could not be more clear.

...”Libs are always trying to one-up each other as ‘defenders of slights against the downtrodden victims of the patriarchal blah blah blah’ or whatever”...

YES! And, the dirtiest secret of this age is that they could not give two hoots about the downtrodden. They lust for power and money and they use, manipulate and lie to the downtrodden for the votes to keep themselves in office. Studies show that conservatives give far more to charity and care far more about the disadvantaged than the left. The left needs people to be dependent upon them for their very lives so that they can never be free from that shackle, and, therefore, the left will rule forever. That is their dream.

What I enjoy about the whole situation is that it will make it extremely difficult for RINOs to justify any further federal money. The wiggle room is gone, the rationalizations are kaput. This is a litmus test, now. A minor one, dollarwise, but first in line.

Every FReeper should get his/her Congresscritter or candidate on the record before Nov. 2.

I think it was Laura Ingraham who pointed out that the left is totally intolerant of any minority person who chooses to think for himself/herself. They demand total enslavement of thought from these people. They should be called the new Masters of the “Plantation of the Mind.”

"Any African-American who votes Republican is a turncoat."
~Je$$e Jackson

"The smallest minority on earth is the individual.
Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities."
~Ayn Rand

"I refuse to have my views dictated to me as if I were an intellectual slave."
~Justice Clarance Thomas

Je$$e Jackson claims to be a champion of civil rights yet he clearly wants blacks to be intellectual slaves proving he is no defender of minorities.

...”But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see an African American male in a Dashiki with a big Afro, I get worried. I get nervous”...

I don’t know about the rest of you folks here, but this statement which I have heard more than once since all this started really galls me. IT WAS NOT AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO HIT THE TWIN TOWERS ON 9-11..IT WAS NOT AFRICAN AMERICANS OR ANY OTHER GROUP WHO FLEW THOSE PLANES ON THAT DAY..Anyone doing something like that brings a normal, natural survival response from horrified people..For those who worship the earth..It is a part of Mother Nature to feel that way..The left is in the business of turning normal to abnormal, right to wrong and good into evil..They seem to pervert everything into it’s opposite. Just my opinion..

I’ve dated leftists, and I have to tell you, they’re the most neurotic women of all. They’re so screwed up, and they are ANGRY.

The liberal men I know I just don’t have the time for. I used to have one as a boss, and I just mocked him when we talked about politics. He’d talk about Bush, and try to get me going, and I’d just laugh and correct his usually incorrect “facts,” which made him REALLY mad. I never engaged him in conversation, just tossed off one-sentence responses to his stuff. He got so angry about that.

This summer I was at a friend’s party, and his ultra-lib brother-in-law was still angry about something I said to him TEN YEARS AGO. I still can’t remember saying it to him, and he’s still fixated on it.

What a bunch of weirdos! That’s why my favorite FR ping list is DUmmie FUnnies—I get the biggest kick out of them whining and crying about one group of people, and then becoming ****house INSANE with hatred over conservatives.

I’m not sure about this affair. What would the response have been if a white man, alone, had said that he felt worried when he saw black men, behind him, with backward ballcaps and baggy shorts on the street at night? If he said he felt afraid what do you think would be the swift outcome? And would the response by others(inluding Juan) be the same? I doubt it. Maybe Juan got what he deserved by helping to create this environment. Why do we never hear govt published data on black on white crime? Because one must not speak the truth out loud in this PC country. Juan, next time keep your true feelings to yourself. Like the rest of us.
