Actually, this happens in the Islamic World ALL OF THE TIME, it is just seldom reported (because it is so routine?)! Perhaps the most famous of these that actually did get reported upon, as part of the Iraq conflict, was the February 2006 bombing of the al-Askari Mosque (the Golden Mosque) in Samara Iraq. This Mosque is one of the holiest Shi'ite shrines and was probably destroyed by Sunni 'extremists' in hopes of provoking a complete collapse of Iraq into a total religious civil war and indeed it came very close.
Beyond this single instance, history is replete with Islam-on-Islam attacks from short years after its founder's death. Our media's 'horror' at military attacks near or even at mosques and shrines are laughable when you consider that their members think nothing of storing weapons and explosives there, even when children are going to school in that same building.
BUT OUR ELITE MEDIA is deeply tied up in multi-culturalism and self-loathing for the wealth and history of Western Civilization. They gladly report our bad things, Abu-Ghraib, but willingly ignore corresponding bad behavior as a misunderstood cultural right.

I understand about the Muslim-on-Muslim violence, but I meant something American liberals care about. The M-on-M violence doesn’t bother them at all—they don’t care, they know Islam isn’t something they believe in. They care about Muslim terrorism only so far as it annoys the evil white invader, the capitalists, and blah blah blah, all of their Che Gueverra romantic fantasies about “revolution.”
They couldn’t care less about Muslims killing Muslims, or Muslims attacking the WTC or the Pentagon—they think we deserve it. When they attack Harvard or the New Yorker offices, or blow up the Starbucks where they get their cup of morning swill, THEN they’ll be calling on the military to blow up Mecca.
