Sen. Dick Durbin: 'I feel good' about Reid coming back as majority leader
The Hill ^ | 10/21/10 02:15 PM ET | Shane D'Aprile

WILMINGTON, Del. — Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told The Hill on Thursday that he's confident Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will prevail in his reelection campaign and retain his status as majority leader next year.

"He has the best ground operation Nevada's ever seen, and it is now in action," Durbin said after a campaign event with Democratic Senate candidate Chris Coons in Delaware. "He's been up in the polls, and between that ground operation and the polling numbers, I feel good about Harry coming back as our majority leader."

Should Reid lose in November, Durbin and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) are widely seen as the most likely senators to replace him as majority leader.

Durbin attended a fundraiser for Coons on Thursday morning and then met with local Delaware business leaders at a Wilmington restaurant.

The Senate majority whip also talked up Democrat Alexi Giannoulias's chances in the race to fill President Obama's former Senate seat in Illinois. On Wednesday, Giannoulias said if Reid were to lose to Republican Sharron Angle, he would back Durbin for majority leader over Schumer.

Durbin also took a shot at Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) Thursday, warning that while Democrats will remain willing to work with the GOP in the Senate after November, he isn't sure Republicans will show that same spirit.

"We've heard from Sen. DeMint and others that his goal is to shut down the Senate either by filibuster or any obstacle that he can dream up," said Durbin. "If that's what they want to achieve, the Senate rules allow them to do that to a great extent. But if there are men and women of good will on both sides of the aisle, we can still solve America's problems."

Barf, but it could happen. I thought for sure that Bush would have taken Nevada in 2008 only to be disappointed. We will see in two weeks.

I feel good about watching the Durbin/Schumer cat fight over who is going to be the minority leader.

So losing the majority leader wouldn’t advise the Dems to moderate, and not make leader someone as radical as Chuck You or Turban Durbin?

Durbin is a real Dick...with the possibility that Reid WILL be back, he's just playing his job-insurance card.

He's a majority of one.

Hmmmmm, sure a lot of shoring up Coons campaign by the dimoKKKRATS. I wonder what their internal polling is telling them?

Of course he believe that Reid will return. After the votes are counted the supportive state employees will find just enough votes to ensure that H.R. is returned to power. And they will keep finding jsut enough votes to win the recounts. See WA State and Chritine Gregoire election victories. No judge will overturn the results regardless of fraud.

They (Democrats) are the masters of deciption and in their mind the ends justify the means. If H.R. is not returned by actual votes cast then it is due to the ignorance of Nevada votes and it is up the Democratic Party elites to correct the situation.

Alexrod, et al have made it clear, repeatedly, that they have a plan that ensures their return to power.

I hope Durbin has plenty of Pepto Bismal on hand for the upset he is also facing over Reid’s “upset”.

When is Durbin up for re-election? I wnat to have some bucks ready to support his opponent.

We have to win both houses.

Schumer in a ‘leadership’ role after what he did to IndyMac Bank isn’t tolerable.

The current Attorney General of Nevada still has NOT prosecuted the ACORN activists who turned in all the fraudulent registration cards for the 2008 election.
They ‘registered’ all the Dallas Cowboys football team, along with Mickey & Minnie Mouse.

She is a Democrat- an ardent supporter of Dirty Harry & her permanent lip prints are on the backside of Harry & NObama.

ACORN activity this election will be as bad or worse than 2008, IMO.

She is a disgrace.
