GOP congressional candidate Stephen Broden says he would not rule out violent overthrow of govt.

Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden stunned his party Thursday, saying he would not rule out violent overthrow of the government if elections did not produce a change in leadership.

In a rambling exchange during a TV interview, Broden, a South Dallas pastor, said a violent uprising “is not the first option” but it is “on the table.” That drew a quick denunciation from the head of the Dallas County GOP, who called the remarks “inappropriate.”

Broden, a first-time candidate, is challenging veteran incumbent Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Dallas’ heavily Democratic 30th Congressional District. Johnson’s campaign declined to comment on Broden.

In the interview, Brad Watson, political reporter for WFAA-TV (Channel 8), asked Broden about at a tea party event last year in Fort Worth in which he described the nation’s government as tyrannical.

“We have a constitutional remedy,” Broden said then. “And the framers say if that don’t work, revolution.”

Watson asked if his definition of revolution included violent overthrow of the government. In a prolonged back-and-forth, Broden at first declined to explicitly address insurrection, saying the first way to deal with a repressive government is to “alter it or abolish it.”

“If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary,” Broden said, adding the nation was founded on a violent revolt against Britain’s King George III.

Watson asked if violence would be in option in 2010, under the current government.

“The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms,” Broden said, without elaborating. “However, it is not the first option.”

The elections will result in a GOP majority and bear in mind there is DUers who use the same line whenever they can’t get their way.

But yeah if things keep going the way their going.....there is going to be blood in the streets.That is what is been happening all through 2010 with the postal attacks and it is only going to get worse.

This cannot go on any longer.

I don’t want either, but each is preferable to some kind of neo-Soviet America.

Old school federalism would completely eliminate this impetus, but the one-size-fits-all legislation and jurisprudence from D.C. kills federalism and local mores.

Broden could have won this, imo. I’m very disappointed.

Eddie Bernice is pretty weak...I guess he might still have a chane.

Nah, that district is overwhelmingly Democrat. It was tailor made for the woman who gives away government money to her and her staffs family members.

When the constitutional process, the system of checks and balances set up by the Founders, has not just been thrown out of kilter, it has been thrown out the window. These socialist maneuvers are what attracts PATRIOTS to the streets of America.

He's an idiot for saying the truth? Bah. Look at it this way - most of the stuff that spews out of the mouth of your average Democrat would have been considered extremist left-wing nonsense only a couple of decades ago, but the commie bastards spewed it with such conviction and regularity, that it is considered almost tame these days, and acceptable among the "moderate" left. Well, we need the same sort of desensitization with traditional American ideas, especially when the guy is merely voicing concepts that were the basis of our country way back when.

Thanks. I've read the constitution and noticed that there isn't any provisions legitimizing violent overthrow of the government.

If the guy wins, he may have to "revise and extend" his remarks on revolution before he takes that oath.

And what is the response of the Dallas County GOP? They run like the cowards. The GOP has become a party run by P.C. cowards so I don’t think it could be counted on in the event of a revolution to restore the liberties taken from our citizens.

The GOP has to say & believe such things - they are going to be right along with the rest of the politicians run out of power on a rail.
They also think that the Tea Party movement is going to evaporate after November & then its back to business as usual

Hmm, interesting. I just posted this on another thread: Hey democrats, Voter Fraud in this election will not be tolerated. If it is obvious it is done and affects key elections, then we have no recourse other than to have an armed rebellion against the dictatorship. Be forewarned. . .

Is it not true if the dems steal these elections, then we do indeed have tyranny? We then have an obligation to water the Tree of Liberty. Steel yourselves and prepare. . . I do hope we get 100 house seats and 50 senate seats. If we do not, we have some decisions to make. .

The oath that we were discussing doesn't involve the Declaration of Independence. It's an oath to defend the Constitution.

No one can honestly take that oath of office while harboring plans to overthrow the government.
