For sure.
I wish District 51 could see it on TV.
Communist Filner needs to be DUMPED and replaced by a real HERO.
Amen Onyx!
Obviously the crowd favored Popaditch. I was so glad when Popaditch mentioned in his rebuttal to one of Filner’s answers that Filner was saying the people are too stupid to understand. That seemed to be the gist of almost every answer Filner gave. The guy is totally disrespectful of the people.
And his answers all relied on what he was able to do with taxpayer money. If he wasn’t the incumbent he would have had absolutely nothing to say.
I was glad when Popaditch mentioned that 75% of all small business owners fall within what Filner calls “the wealthy” - the people that Filner said the Republicans were holding the nation’s tax cuts “hostage” in favor of. I loved the line saying, “With friends like that, who needs enemies?” From the response of the crowd he voiced exactly what the people were thinking on that as well.
The comments early on about anybody who’s ever had a job not going to work saying, “I hope my rich employer loses money today” - what a slam on the career politicians! And it wasn’t lost on the crowd either. They got what he was saying. His comment about anybody buying a jug of milk knowing better than to wish that the grocer would have a higher tax or another regulation to pay for so he would pass it on in the milk price. That’s stuff people can easily understand but Filner obviously doesn’t get it.
Regarding deregulation, what Filner didn’t address is why - if the regulations are so necessary - are we not being hurt by wind farms on the reservations? If we bog down American business with regulations, the stuff is still going to happen, it’s just going to be done by Venezuelan oil companies instead of American oil companies, or by Indian tribes alone rather than by tribes AND non-tribal companies.
Filner’s whole plan to increase jobs in the area is the solar industry. Does he think they’re going to export the sun? It just seems like he has no grasp of the realities of business life.
Popaditch wiped the floor with this guy. I hope a lot of people listened.
Good take on it. I agree.
Thanks for telling me.
He’s a great man and he needs and deserves to win.
I’m going to link this thread to the SAN DIEGO TEA PARTY THREAD.
Oh - and another thing I really liked was in the closing statement when Popaditch suggested that instead of complaining about the things that were popping up against him from community members, Filner should clean up his act and actually address the concerns of his constituents.
Five thumbs way up on that one!
Fit right in with his answer that our system is the greatest in the world and we just need to get people in it who will actually listen to the people and represent them.
Woo-Hoo!
Thanks for the recap!
People with character, people like Gunny, is what we need to sow the field with. Many will grow tall and mighty.
Thanks for that recap! ;) for those of us who were not here to listen.
The great thing about the Gunny is that he won't just take this ferret on in this debate he will be that guy the entire time he is in office. Can you imagine him making one minute speeches? Can you imagine him taking on Dennis Kucinich in a floor debate? How about standing up to the media or an NPR pundit?
GO Gunny GO!
Semper Fi,
TS
Are you legit?
I loved it when Popaditch basically said that anybody who says that we’re gonna have the same amount of doctors and spend the same amount of money and give medical care to twice as many people is either stupid or a liar. lol.
And Filner’s response was that since he’s not either (cough), then there must be value to what he’s saying. lol.
I think his response made it abundantly clear that he’s both.
I would LOVE to have somebody, in Congress and in interviews with the corrupt media, come right out and say what we the people are thinking, like Popaditch did in this debate.
And I also liked it that if he didn’t have anything more to say he just said, “I’m fine with what I already said.” Or the point at which he said he didn’t need to rebut Filner on the death tax because it seemed like they had found one thing they agreed on.
Popaditch also said several times that he believes in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - and that the government needs to just get out of the way and let people do those things.
He talked about keeping the revenue in the area - that the more taxing goes on, the more business and jobs shut down and then the only money to be had is what people can beg off of their government. He noted that Washington DC is fully employed; they know how to beg for favors.
He also noted that the unknowns are killing business investment: cap and tax, Obamacare, potentially ending the Bush tax cuts, etc. And just as a personal note, it seems like the investors and financial analysts agree with that. Filner seemed to have no clue about how the economy works.
Popaditch also said that he knows the difference between a promise and entitlement. He said if people have paid into social security, they were given a promise that they would get that back, and he would fight to make sure that promise was kept. But to use it as a way to enact socialism - redistributing money from people who put into the system to give it to people who haven’t - that’s entitlement and he doesn’t support that.
He said he knows we need a safety net for children in poverty, etc but there shouldn’t be any incentive to remain there because it’s so comfortable.
He said the solution to the educational system is not to pour more money and power into the teachers unions, but to raise accountability through vouchers. Filner used that to say that Popaditch wants to destroy public schools. I think the crowd booed at Filner when he did that. The crowd was obviously not happy with Filner a lot of the time.
Won’t work, not anymore. Try another line of work.
You signed up today to post that crap?
I love what you said, and can only say, AMEN!
That you, “Boob” Filner? LOL.
Don’t come here calling our longtime FReeper “Popaditch,” and think you’ll get away unscathed with *that*.
Lurk much prior to tonight?
LOL.
I sure hope someone videotaped that debate. It was a beatdown.
Rolling stone says there’s audio at http://votethebumout.weebly.com/ . There will be video soon. =)
