That’s the scary thing about home invasions. They can happen at just about any time. One should always keep their doors locked and have a good mid to large sized dog. And of course have access to a loaded gun.
I used to believe police propaganda when I was younger — home invasions are as incredibly rare and amazingly few in number as people getting struck by a meteorite. Seems they happen EVERYWHERE and ALL THE TIME.
I keep my guns in different parts of the house, and they’re all ready for action.
Preferably in a holster on one's hip. I don't always practice this piece of advice, but I should. In a class I once took, we tried out the old "how long would it take for a guy in reasonably good shape with a knife 20 feet away to get to you?" Well, we verified that it takes but one and one-half seconds. Not enough time for you to get to a gun that's not right there right then.
