Obama's 4-day campaign swing is his longest yet

WASHINGTON – Two years ago, presidential candidate Barack Obama drew 60,000 people to a riverfront park rally in Portland, Ore. Another 15,000 couldn't get in.

But political organizers don't expect huge crowds when now-President Obama returns to Portland on Wednesday for the first time since that campaign heyday. Instead, the goal is for a far more modest showing of 5,000 people at a rally for Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Kitzhaber at the convention center.

It's the mark of a presidency weighed down by a sluggish economy, high unemployment, a poor housing market, two wars and a public that largely disapproves of Obama's performance in office.

Obama seems undaunted by it, at least publicly, as he heads out on his longest campaign swing of the season — a four-day stretch that also will take him to Washington state, California, Nevada and Minnesota.

How different.

When “Obama” and “swing” are in the same sentence it usually refers to golf.

He’s spending an overnighter in SF.. he should stay in the Castro or Haight Ashbury district to get a real taste of the city.

You think he’s a ‘Dead’ fan,, doesn’t seem like a Winterland type.. He’s got the strut down for Mr Natural. Truckin’. ;-)

I think it's the mark of a music industry who couldn't provide a "good drawing band" to prop up the naked emperor as it did in 2008. 72,000 gather at Portland's Waterfront Park to see Obama (Monday, May 19, 2008)

Obama was the biggest star at Sunday's gathering -- though a popular Portland band, The Decemberists, provided the warmup act. With blue skies and temperatures in the 80s, many in the crowd said Waterfront Park was simply the place to be.

Notice too how the crowd has risen from 72,000 to 75,000 in the revisionist account.

Good to see he’s doing so much getting the economy back on track and focusing on jobs. Nice to have the “workaholic” president. /s/

He has been on a campaign swing since he started running for President. Maybe the argument could be made since he ran for his first office seat.

This is all he does. He said in the campaign that his experience is all in running a successful election campaign.

He even admitted in 2008 that he didn’t understand economics and would hire people smarter than him to do that part. I said we should just be voting on THOSE guys instead of HIM as president.

I think Obama is talking a big risk in these Leftist type places.

With us, we never liked him because of politics. But with the Left they loved him and he totally failed to live up to his hype so it must be a personal hatred that many of them have for Obama these days.

A real deep down burning hatred.

Correction: Two years ago, an outdoor rock concert drew 60,000 rock fans to a riverfront park, where BO and his teleprompters appeared for a photo op. The players took a short break while his teleprompters spoke and BO smiled for the cameras.
