One thing this case has shown is how inexact, and often erroneous, the “science” of criminal profiling is.

The profilers would have considered this the work of a socially inept but sadistic loser in life and never even considered Williams a suspect.

Thankfully it was hard evidence—his boot prints, tire tracks—that pointed right to him.

This guy was definitely not your typical criminal. He wasn’t too careful in his crimes since his tire and boot tracks were out there for the police to see. Once caught he admitted and confessed to everything they had on him and he pleaded guilty so there was only the formality of sentencing to be done. Given that he did his military job well enough to rise to the rank he did I think he had a split personality sort of like Jekyll and Hyde.
