GOP in Lead in Final Lap
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-20-10 | JONATHAN WEISMAN

A vigorous post-Labor Day Democratic offensive has failed to diminish the resurgent Republicans' lead among likely voters, leaving the GOP poised for major gains in congressional elections two weeks away, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Among likely voters, Republicans hold a 50% to 43% edge, up from a three-percentage-point lead a month ago.

In the broader category of registered voters, 46% favor a Democratic-controlled Congress, compared with 44% who want Republican control. But in the 92 House districts considered most competitive, the GOP's lead among registered voters is 14 points, underscoring the Democrats' challenge in maintaining their hold on the House. The poll of 1,000 registered voters was taken Oct. 14-18.

"It's hard to say Democrats are facing anything less than a category four hurricane," said Peter Hart, the Democratic pollster who conducts the Journal poll with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. "And it's unlikely the Democratic House will be left standing."

A 9% swing in registered voters? I call Bullshit. NBC is inflating the percentage of Dems sampled.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of political hacks.

Looking more and more like we win the House and add some seats in the Senate. Rasmussen was just on O’Reilly predicting the GOP picks up around 50 seats in the House and some seats, but not enough for a majority, in the Senate.

Shame we can’t win in some of these liberal coastal states, but we will be well positioned in the Senate for 2012.

I believe that our victory in the House is going to be historic, and that this poll confirms it.

“But in the 92 House districts considered most competitive, the GOP’s lead among registered voters is 14 points”

Further, I believe that the Dems know it, and are desperately trying to hold on to the Senate.

Witness the activity of Obama, his wife, Biden, and Bill Clinton, dashing frantically around the Blue States where they think they have a chance to pull out a victory in a close race.

We are seeing some pollsters making weird assumptions about this years electorate so that their results show races closing and even turning in the Dems direction (See PPP in Pennsylvania). Their personal attacks have been vicious, meant to turn off voters. But in this election cycle, they are only driving the highly motivated to contribute to their opponents, and to the polls. They are desperate, indeed.

If this year the Republican wave is as big as the Congressional Ballot indicates, it might just sweep them into a Senate majority as well.

IMHO.

Bogus. While I'd love this to be true, the individual polls in these districts do not bear it out.

Never underestimate the ability and skill of the GOP to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

In the next two weeks, the GOP had better get their heads out of their asses on the foreclosure and bank fraud mess. Right now, the GOP, Tea Party, et al - are all completely silent.

In another week, there will be a questions, serious questions, asked of political candidates in the press, ie, “What are you going to do, if elected, about this bank fraud?”

And the GOP’s answers will be utterly predictable: “Get government out of the way of business.” There will be NO talk by the GOP of prosecutions, there will be no talk of regulation of the banks, there will be no talk of breaking up “too big to fail” banks, there will be no talk of investigations of the frauds upon the courts, etc.

HR3808 shows what the GOP is going to do: Carry water for the banks. And when that becomes clear, I think that people will start cooling on giving the GOP the keys to Congress again so readily...

I’m increasingly worried about votor intimidation/fraud. What about those military ballots?

Can anyone reassure our side that all is being done to guarantee a fair election? Is there a viable strategy to deal with intimidation/fraud when it happens?
