After a bad couple of weeks, Republicans worried that Joe Manchin might have overtaken John Raese in the race to replace the late Robert Byrd in the US Senate. A new Fox News poll shows that Manchin made up ground on Raese, but the Republican still holds a narrow lead over the Democrat in West Virginia. Barack Obama’s agenda worries voters more than a casting call for a political ad, apparently:
Republican John Raese still leads Democrat Joe Manchin in West Virginia’s rough and rowdy Senate race despite a pair of controversial television ads, according to the latest Fox News state poll. Raese’s lead over Manchin shrank two points from Oct. 2, but his 48 percent to 45 percent lead over the popular second-term governor is still cause for concern among Democrats.
Raese’s lead comes after a bruising two weeks in which an ad agency hired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee got busted looking for “hicky” actors to play parts in an anti-Manchin ad and Manchin produced an ad in which he shot a hole through a copy of President Obama’s global warming legislation with a deer rifle.
The poll of likely voters shows why Manchin might be moved to take more shots at the Obama agenda. Obama’s job approval in the state dropped two points to 27 percent. Sixty two percent of voters said that Obama’s polices had hurt the state’s economy – up two points from Oct. 2 — and 51 percent thought the president’s agenda had hurt their personal finances.

I would love the idea of the 1894 election as mentioned by somebody recently......with roughly 100 seats changing hands.
But, I think those seismic shifts are honestly more difficult in today’s world of polls and instant news.
Back in the 1800s the other side may remain completely tuned out if they aren’t motivated. Now, it is much easier to get “scared” into voting, which would perhaps “blunt” the real vote.
1/3 of those who stated they supported Obama, stated they won't be voting for him in Nov.
No 'wishful thinking', it is reported that Democrats are pulling back support from vulunable seats to hold 'safe' seats due to the GOP's gaining strength on a daily basis (WSJ)
No recent polls on the Senate side has not resulted in any Democrat incumbant from pulling too far ahead.
The races are moving towards the GOP.
In the next week, you will see more realistic polls showing that many of the Democratic Senate seats are going to go GOP as well-enough for the GOP to gain the Senate.
“Election Day is coming, the hurricane force has not diminished and it is going to hit the Democrats head on,” said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.
“It’s hard to say that the Democrats are facing anything less than a Category 4 hurricane,” Hart added.
Don’t get it in my neck of the woods. Small, R leaning paper IIRC. Charleston Gazette (rat) is the big paper there.
Other than the fact we need Raese to win if we have any hope of taking the Senate... no.
You only absorb what you want to hear. This morning, a second poll shows Sestak the Democrat surging into the lead in PA. And the Kentucky and Colorado races are moving to a tossup. All these races were thought of as likely Republican.
You are also mixing up the Senate and House as if they are the same. We need a much, much higher rate of turnover to take the Senate, compared to the House.
As of this morning, Rasmussen has a new poll with Raese leading by 7, 50-43.

I live in a very blue state (NJ) and I can tell you - people are pissed. I dont think NJ is going to send many republicans to DC but if they are pissed here - they must be going insane in purple states.
Well, NJ did elect a Republican governor. I’m must hoping there is enough enthusiasm, anger and/or Tea Party activism in blue and purple states to put some of those very close
Senate and House races in the Republican column on November 2nd.
