After reading the story in detail, I definitely think it’s better with the Chinese there.
The coal mine workers had their work hours cut short due to lack of demand. So they started rioting and throwing rocks at the managers offices which then led to the shooting. Clearly the Chinese managers were wrong to do it, but it’s not entirely unjustified.
Moreover, there is something deeply ironic about Zambians railing against Chinese oppression and racism, when literally everything from their roads to power plants hospitals to mines to farms are only running because of the Chinese presence in Zambia. If the 100 thousand or so Chinese specialists left the country, Zambia would collapse into anarchy and lawlessness.
Well, the blacks wanted the whites out and now they have the Chinese.
