The double standard is remarkable. Barney Frank has had at least 3 “lifetime” partners during his years in Congress and is considered an example of relationship stability to the gay community. Newt Gingrich has had 3 wives and is considered to be way too flighty to be a serious leader.

I would probably agree pretty much agree on the judgment on Gingrich although it is not just the marriage issue. My main point is how strange that a gay politician gets a pass on this issue.

Years ago, when I lived in San Francisco and worked in a field that had a heavy preponderance of gay men, I actually grew to like and respect a number of the more talented and less in-your-face members of that population. Right up until one “couple” bragged proudly to me of their “monogamy”: “We’re faithful to each other — we only cruise the bathhouses separately once a week.”
