Its been just over a month since Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder blew up the talk format on WTNT at 570 and turned it into an ESPN-based all-sports station. That move stranded a talk lineup that included TRNs Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage and Jerry Doyle. Now theres a new home for those shows and more, and it is also claiming the WTNT call letters, per an FCC filing. The station is WXTR at 730, licensed to Alexandria, VA.
DCRTV.com reports the format change, and says its part of a sale from Snyders Red Zebra Broadcasting to Metro Radio. The new conservative talk lineup debuts today as The Truth. No price announced for the sale of 730 AM, which operates with 8,000 watts daytime and 25 watts at night. Buyer Metro owns other area stations, such as regional Mexican WKDV, Manassas (1460).

Confirmed: Snyder Sells 730 Which Picks Up TNT Calls & Old Talk Format - 10/18 - DCRTV gets confirmation that Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s Red Zebra broadcasting arm is selling Alexandria’s WXTR, 730 AM, to Vienna-based Metro Radio. No price announced yet. With the WTNT calls moving from Snyder’s sports talker on 570 to 730, which had been airing oldies the past week or so. Under a lease agreement that takes effect today, the new “The Truth” on 730 will pick up the largely Talk Radio Network righty talk programming that 570 dumped in September, including the old Washington Times “America’s Morning News” show, plus Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, and Jerry Doyle. Snyder’s just-launched sports talker on 570 will take on the WSPZ calls. Metro, which has applied for the 730WTNT.com web address, owns Spanish language outlets in Manassas, 1460 AM, and Warrenton, 1420 AM, plus a classic country station on 1250 AM, also Warrenton. The deal leaves Snyder’s Red Zebra with two DC area sports talkers - ESPN 980, WTEM, on three signals, including 980 AM plus 92.7 FM and 94.3 FM, as well as WSPZ on 570 AM.....
Salem Biz Net To 780, 1260? - 10/18 - Lance Venta of RadioInsight.com tells us that some other DC area AMers could soon be flipping format. Salem has registered a number of domains hinting at a new national business news network format for Christian talker WAVA-AM on 780 and/or righty talker WWRC on 1260. It has applied for MoneyRadio780.com, MoneyRadio1260.com, and MoneyRadioDC.com. More soon.....
Wow, such a huge difference between day and night. 25 Watts at night seems so low.
How powerful is this station compared to others in the area I wonder?

>>Beck To 1260 - 10/17 - A DCRTVer says he heard that Salem righty talker WWRC (1260 AM) is adding Glenn Beck’s radio show starting Monday. More as we hear it. Fox News personality Beck had been heard locally on CBS’s Big Talker WHFS (1580 AM) until he was dropped in late summer....
