NY Post Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Governor; Candidates Debate Tonight
NBC New York ^ | 10/18/2010

Posted on 10/18/2010 6:48:41 AM PDT by WebFocus

he New York Post has endorsed Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, saying it believes he has the "vision to blaze a path to reform.''

The endorsement comes hours before a seven-way debate in the contentious race to replace Gov. David Paterson in Albany.

The newspaper on Monday said it based its endorsement for Cuomo "in the hope, if not necessarily the full expectation'' that Cuomo would become the strong leader that New York state needs.

But the Post said it isn't clear whether anyone currently running for the state's highest office "is fully up to the task.''

It called Cuomo's Republican opponent, Carl Paladino, a man "with a towering temper and a well-documented contempt for the truth.''

The Post said Cuomo was an effective attorney general who understood "the underlying issues of Albany's ingrained dysfunction and the urgent need to address them.''

Cuomo and Paladino have been busy readying themselves for tonight's televised debate as their surrogates continued to snipe away.

Cuomo's campaign released a new TV ad claiming that Paladino would take away rights and that victims of rape and incest would be denied abortions that are now legal.

Paladino has said he personally opposes abortion as a Catholic. He has said that he would advocate against abortion, but changing abortion laws is not a legislative priority. He said abortion isn't an issue in the campaign but is a way for Democrats to energize their base.

Abortion rights in New York are protected by a supermajority in the Democrat-led Assembly.

RE: No, it will change the focus, period.

ONLY IF YOU LET IT and YOU ARE LETTING IT EVEN AS WE SPEAK.

Your continued harping on the above non-issues just shows us where your focus is.

Again, I cannot speak for those who WANT TO LET IT, BUT IT SHOULD NOT.

POLICIES, POLICIES, POLICIES. That’s what will make or unmake this once great state.

Too bad, because people who live in NJ but who do not pay a cent of taxes do concern themselves with Jersey politics - and are happy to take advantage of your husband's willful ignorance of Jersey politics to take money out of your family's pockets.

We don't live in NJ. I don't tell other people how to run their states. You do.

which is why I'm pretty upset with Paladino

You are a discouragement troll. Nobody but other discouragement trolls listens to your opinion. Or hadn't you noticed.

Right, of course you would, and you’ll find any excuse to justify it for them.

I would think that if someone falsely accused me of stalking a child, I would definitely be angry enough to endorse his opponent whether his opponent was a worthless candidate or not.

You spin very well for the other side. For free?

Eyewitness account of Dickers/NY Post relationship with Cuomo.

When I had lunch with Dicker in Miami last year, I was surprised when he punched Andrew up on his speed dial of his cell phone and handed the phone over so Andrew could say hello.

NY and CA....3rd worlders.

And the evil heartland will have to bail them both out next year.

NYC is a lost cause.

Unless the folks on the dole down there have finally figgered out that the only way their bucks keep coming is if the state's economy improves. Can't keep paying folks to sit on their keisters if the state's taxpayers keep fleeing.

You are a nasty divisive poster. That mindset does just as much damage as hyphenated Americans and specially protected groups.

You have incessantly argued against Tea Party candidates.

Only those who deserve it.

That’s trolling.

It's an attempt to inject a bit of reality into that cloud of hopes and wishes that you're attempting to pass off as political commentary.

You have already stated your opinion of the Tea Party in Post 85.

Yeah, so?

Posters can readily see who you are.

Good.

ONLY IF YOU LET IT and YOU ARE LETTING IT EVEN AS WE SPEAK.

When a candidate deliberately makes a sensational accusation, he is directing the focus of the election away from policy.

That was Carl Paladino's decision, and he has to live with it - and, unfortunately, so does every NY taxpayer.

If you are angry at anyone for deflecting the race from policy to personality, take it up with Carl Paladino - or, possibly, Michael Caputo. I am not entirely convinced that Caputo isn't a Cuomo plant at this point.

You'd better believe I do.

If they're going to tax me, I'm getting involved.

He happens to be a Freeper and Paladinos best friend. On the other hand, we think you're a troll.

How many points has Paladino dropped in the polls over the last couple of weeks? Close to 20%, if memory serves. He's under 25% now, according to the NTY poll quoted above.

Why? In large part, because Paladino chose to start harping on non-issues. Whose fault is that? Carl and his team's fault, that's whose fault it is.

Why don't you start looking at the candidate, rather than a FReeper who is merely telling you the truth.

There's no justification for giving people bad advice just because the guy who would theoretically be a better choice slandered you.

I honestly doubt that if someone accused you of a very nasty crime and then refused to even attempt to back up his false claims, that you would do anything to make his life easier.

My anger is directed at the mainstream media who are supposed to EDUCATE the public regarding the issues at stake for NY in this elections, but prefers to waste precious ink on such non-issues as -— what Carl said ONE TIME in this venue or that.

BTW, why be surprised, Paladino isn’t the only one they’re trying to sabotage. Look at what they’re doing to Meg Whitman in California with the illegal immigrant employee she had....

But again, WE OUGHT TO KNOW BETTER.

FOCUS ON THE ISSUES.

If New Yorkers ( and Californians for that matter ) are so shallow that they prefer to be influenced by what rags like the Times or the Post tells them, ignoring the issues at stake and what candidates bring to the table, they deserve everything they get ( and they already are ).
