(CNN) -- The wife of an American reportedly shot dead by gunmen believed linked to a Mexican drug gang gave an eight-hour interview and provided a detailed statement to federal and state authorities in Mexico, she said Monday.
Tiffany Hartley told CNN's "American Morning" she gave a detailed account of what happened on September 30, from the time she and her husband David left their McAllen, Texas, home until she left a sheriff's office that night.
Hartley recounted the incident Monday, saying she and her husband headed to Falcon Lake, which straddles the U.S.-Mexico border, that day to "enjoy a day on the lake." The two decided to ride their jet skis to the Mexican side of the lake to see a historical church there, she said.

They must be suspecting something if they questioned her for 8 more hours
Is there anything inconsistant in her story?
I ain’t buying it.
She is in on it.
Otherwise, why is she alive when hubby and the investigator are dead.
She’s lucky to get out of Mexico alive.
I heard from somewhere they encouraged her to drop the case.
Rick Perry is a coward. Protect people on the lake with Apache helicopters. Shoot to kill.

This case is surreal. Your comment suggests she was perhaps romantically or financially involved with a Mexican drug lord/cartel and planned or participated in her husband’s murder.
That was my first reaction; but I am wondering if her husband’s murderers only let her go because they enjoyed watching the gringo girl frantically trying to save herself & her husband; then using her experience to send a message of intimidation to LE and other US tourists.
Having watched some of her interviews, she appears to be in a state of shock.
My understanding was that this interview was conducted by Mexican authorities, not further questioning by US agencies.
Rick Perry is a coward. Protect people on the lake with Apache helicopters. Shoot to kill.
These people were in Mexico not in Texas when the event happened. How far into Mexico do you want Texas Authorities to intrude?
The clearest explanation I have seen was put out by Stratfor: the killing was a case of mistaken identity on the part of some lower level cartel thugs who thought the jet skiing couple were somebody else. Since the woman is now protected by US authorities, the cartels have little opportunity to attack her and little incentive since she has given her story to everybody who will listen.
This recent interview was with Mexican federal authorities which means that the US has pressured Mexico to tackle this issue at the federal level. I’m not sure if that really means squat, but one can hope.
Yeah, something doesn't smell right about this. Unless the couple was in the wrong place at the wrong time (hard to believe, in broad daylight, in the middle of a lake) .... there's at least one piece missing, here.
That's a good explanation, but... I wonder why the power structure of the cartel hasn't offered anyone up? (unless they have and we just don't know)
Toss some grunt-level thug to the wolves, to make all of the unwanted attention go away and get back to business as usual.
Unless, as another on this thread has speculated, this was a warning / attempt at intimidation.
There are a couple of pieces missing to this story. Part of the problem is that it's a little hard to separate the good guys from the bad guys on the other side of the border.
As I recall David was working for an “Alberta, Canada” oil company in Mexico. That sets off my “hmmmm” buzzer....?DEA/CIA undercover?....
Mexico City!!!
The Texas Guard should have 24 aerial and surface surveillance on that lake and enforce order with gunfire. The government of Texas has that right. The "government" of Mexico has to be on notice that any suspected sources of criminal activity on their side of the lake will be destroyed.
Mexico has an Army. An Air Force. A Navy. They even have a Coast Guard. Where the hell are they?
Look up "Perdicaris Alive, or Raisuli Dead."
If you go to this link you will see that the situation is Mexico is dire.
I will warn you in advance that these are real gory pictures that you would never see with our media.

There is no border, Bill. There is a 100-mile wide, semi-lawless Zona de tolerancia. The bad guys in law enforcement, in narco-traffic, in political corruption are common now to both countries.
There is no border. And just like in Paki-Afghanistan, there are tribal family groups who operate on both sides, some in uniform, some not. Sheriffs, LEO's, BP Agents, Court Officials, Mayors ... all with relatives in the "business."
Think Prohibition.... on steroids and cocaine ... merciless and armed with automatic weapons.... and financed with hundreds of Millions of dollars ... not hundreds.
There is no, repeat, NO border.
“the killing was a case of mistaken identity “
Was it? Or was he part of the Mexican drug trade? Why were they in Mexico?
Something fishy about this Falcon Lake story.
Ten miles should be about right. Level everything, build the WALL a few hundred yards south the actual border location (where there is water, build it on the south side) and mine all the approaches. Periodically rake the ten mile dead zone with practice artillery fire.
I heard from somewhere they encouraged her to drop the case.
She didn’t indicate that on the TV interview she did today or in this article. It maybe so but she wasn’t castigating the Mexican officials from what little I saw of the interview.
