A majority of Americans would recommend pursuing a government career to a close friend or relative just getting out of school, according to a new Washington Post poll on perceptions of federal employees.

Fifty seven percent of respondents to the survey said they would recommend a public sector career, while a third of respondents said they would not.

...a majority of self-identified independents, liberals, moderates and conservatives said they would recommend applying for a government job...

Full results from the poll will be published in Sunday's Washington Post.

Asking the tax leeches to repair a pothole is all you need to know.

Why not? You make a lot more, have excellent benefits a nd retire early on an excellent pension. Plus stimulus dollars directed to preserve your job in an economic downturn. Why not recommend it to a friend? Hopefully the choice won’t look so good in a year or two.

There are a bunch of openings and very high salaries. It’s disgusting. Almost a moral issue at this point.

Think outside the box...let’s get some conservatives taking those jobs. Divide and conquer. If we don’t get those jobs, the libtards will...

Depends on the person. I have friends who are unimaginative, unmotivated and uncompetitive — they are ideal for civil service.

Sadly there is a lot of truth to this. The nice part is that at the Federal level veterans, and expecially disabled veterans get a great deal of preference.

It won’t be long before we are all working for the government full time. Right now, I think we work for Uncle Sam for the first 5 months. After that, we work for ourselves.

My daughter is looking for a job. Has a business adm. degree and working on her master’s. I have told her to get a fed. gov. job since there isn’t much else out there. Pay is good, benefits are great. Sad it has come to this, though.

This is entirely true. #1 reason, you basically can’t get laid off or even fired. You’re set for life.

This trend and attitude has to change - History tells us this quite clearly - or we shall lose our Sacred Republic. Onward to Revolution II starting November 2nd!

As one who worked in the federal government, BEFORE this administration, to anyone who thinks about getting a federal job, you will become just another ‘Smith’ in the Matrix!

Besides, since the ORIGINAL intent of federal service was to have an all-VETERAN staff, think of how many jobs you will be taking from deserved military veterans, who put their life on the line, so you can just sit back, collect a paycheck, screw things up royally, and NEVER get fired, and all without having to lift your finger to safeguard your friend’s, or your family’s soon-to-be-extinct freedoms, (courtesy of your boss-in-chief) as they have done!

Average Fed salary is $123K. Where do you beat the retirement benefits?

Yes, or it has been explained to me, ‘must hire’ if they are marginally qualified, even if there are 100 folks more qualified in front of them. It is especially frustrating because even affirmative action is typically trumped by a disabled vet candidate. This turns the hair of effete liberal bureaucrats gray prematurely!

I worked for the feds for a number of years. If you want excellent benefits, job security, rising salary, and fairly easy work, I recommend it.

It doesn't do much for your self-respect, but if your self-respect is not tied to the externals of your job, go for it.
